| New Garage Shelves - What can you stockpile in a garge?
My DH just put up some shelves in our garage so I would have more space for some stockpiling items but... what can be stockpiled in a garage and what is the best way to do so? I plan on storing: Garbage bags, Extra (boxed) kitchen items (drink mixer, etc) Non-liquid cleaning supplies We are in New Hampshire so it's hot/cold/hot/cold so things would freeze or it could get really hot. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you

I store all of my cleaning supplies, TP, paper towels, napkins, diapers, dish soap and all my Glade smell goods. I'm in OK where it is hotter than heck right about now and I haven't had any problems yet! Also, I keep my bar soap outside...not sure if this is wise or not but so far, so good! Nice shelves!

Nice shelves. They look so lonely, time to fill them up!!!! ![]() When I lived in Las Vegas, I used to store TP, paper towels, trash bags and anything else that did not melt. |

I would suggest putting some things in bins if you are going to store in garage that you don't want critters to get to. You could put odd size products in bins and that would stack better if they were in bins. Sometimes people take them out of their packaging so they can compact it to make more space, if you intend to use it yourself eventually. You could use cleare bins so you can see what you got or label the bins if you are going to use the non clear ones. Just my two cents.

I think we are all drooling over your shelves ![]() I am in Missouri and it's HOT here right now and it gets COLD in the winter...I agree with what everyone else is saying...I wouldn't put soap in there though...I would be afraid of it melting (like I am today! )We live in the country and I have to think about varmints too....especially the little guys....mice! So I would store paper goods and other things those critters like in plastic bins if it were me...just to be safe! Have fun filling those up!

WOW...those shelves are awesome I agree w/everybody also, but I don't know that I would put many deo, shampoo or soap out there. And finding some cheap containers to put everything would be my idea of organizing it also, to keep the critters out. Check out your local goodwill for containers, as I just picked up several smaller ones yesterday for me to start organizing my stuff.

Thank you all for you comments & ideas.! I like the container ideas, any kind or is one brand better than the other? I have some small Sterilite & it seems like the tops do not want to snap down or stay on so I've been using them for toys.

I store right now drinks, shampoo's cleaning stuff, paper stuff outside. But im planning on moving it all inside ( minus the drinks) when i get all my shelves up. Ill still probably leave the TP outside and the papertowels as well.

My recommendation is to use the colored rubbermaid ones(like the one in the picture) for the majority of your items if you can afford to buy them. They are spendy though Watch though, as Target has them on sale frequently for very good prices. My boss uses the rubbermaid ones all the time & those are the only ones that don't break all the time in the hot/cold temps. The other brands crack in the really cold temps. HTH

Thanks for asking this question--your shelves look FANTASTIC!! I am also getting DH to put up shelves in our garage. It is CRAZY hot here right now, so I wasn't sure on shampoo/deodorants/etc!!

I certainly wouldn't store deodorant there.....I've seen what leaving it in a hot car does to that....... I store all my paper towels & TP in the garage area where it gets hot & use that area for general items in 18gal plastic bins. I have a finished area downstairs with shelves where I store most of the more perishable items. It is somewhat below grade & stays cooler on that side. |
