| What type of diet do I need to be on?
I want to lose weight--alot of weight. I'm thinking I need to lose about 70 pounds to be in an acceptable BMI level. I am a working mom of 2 young kids (age 4 and 7 months). Should I be on a low-carb diet or low-fat diet? I just want to look good, feel good, and have fun with my kids and not be so tired! Thanks in advance!

You will definitely get a lot of advice on this one. My suggestion FWIW is to actually ask your doctor. Also check your insurance as some insurance will give reimbursement for Weight Watchers. Personally I would do WW, but that's me.

I have used WW successfully as well. I've actually been counting points for a few months and lost about 20-25 lbs so far. Lately what I've been doing is cutting out all processed stuff including white flour and refined sugar. I'm eating a lot more whole grains, fruits and vegetables and I'm finding it way easier to stick to my points. As in when its time to stop I'm going to have trouble increasing my points. I think when I get to that point I'll eat more fat since its got more calories.

I have tried the low carb diet and it was not all that great. I found myself to be extremely hungry all the time. The best advice I ever got was to keep a food diary. Once you see what you are eating on a normal basis you will be able to make changes. Eat more in the morning and less and less as the day goes on. Cardio is what will work to drop pounds and fast. Start by walking as much as you are able to and add a little every week. Right now I am on 3 miles per day 5 days a week. I can see the inches dropping! Dont give up! Thats the hardest part, find your motivation and run with it! Good luck!

Great input from everyone! I personally wouldn't recommend a "low-carb" diet since carbs are essential to our being !I know many people who've done WW and found it to be helpful - my Grandma lost 35 pounds on it !

I'm on the same goal plan!! Since I've taken notice of what I eat I'm down 20 lbs. The best thing to remember is everything you eat counts. Those bites of the babies food to make sure it's not hot, that last couple of fries, cookies, whichever all add up without even thinking about them Low fat/low carb diets fall into the fad diet catagory. Sure you lose weight and fast too but think about the reality of your life cab/m you honestly never eat bread, pasta, or any sweets again?? I'm a mother of two boys age one and two and would love to team together in this weightloss journey if you'd like. Accountability makes all the difference!!!! |

I'm a SAHM to three young boys. I reached my breaking point when I stood on the scale and I weighed as much as I did the day before my twins were born....and well I wasn't pregnant! I started WW in December as of last Saturday I've lost 29.2 lbs. I still want to lose another 30 lbs. I can tell you just like anything else worth obtaining its hard work. But I feel so much better! I cleaned out the cupboards and my husband has even lost weight and he's off his cholesterol medication. I stay away from processed foods and fresh fruit and veggies always in the house. I use the WW kitchen app to plan my meals and just stay on track and count everything! Good luck to you!Sent from my iPhone using AFullCup |

I was on Ideal Protein for two and a half months and lost over 50lbs. It's a really good program, you lose a TON of inches too! I was doing calorie counting & exercising and never lost a pants size before but on Ideal Protein I went from a 28 to an almost 18. Amaaaazing.

Don't forget to keep four servings of good fats in your diet each day. These are the UNsaturated fats which causes you to burn more fat. They are olives, avocados (guacamole), nuts, and dark chocolate. Also try to stick to 400 calories every four hours, ideally four times a day.. Your body needs about 100 calories an hour so if you stick to that your body will burn it off, if you intake more than that it will be stored. Also try the app fitness pal if you can access it, it helped me a lot!! Good luck!!

I eat low fat, low carb, and no sugar. I get my carbs from fruits and vegetables. I dont eat processed foods either. I feel great and I have a ton of energy I dont think of this as a diet its just the way I eat.I think weight watchers and other programs, healthy programs, all work great. You just have to find which one if best for you and you have to follow it. And exercise-Im a big fan! If you havent exercised in a while it would be great to check with your dr. before you do. That never hurts. Plus you can discuss your weight loss goals and how to get there. I am a fitness freak and I work out alot. But I started slowly and I built up to where I am now. Good luck. Just remember there will be ups and downs. Dont let the scale discourage you and dont weigh yourself too much! Trust me theres nothing more discouraging then when your eating is perfect, no cheating, and you gain! Really? And if that does happen just blow it off. You know you didnt do anything wrong so dont let that play with your mind. Just do your best-thats all you can do! |

I agree with the Carb method u described. I have tried WW 3 times with little results. Then I found out my system is Carb resistant which is mostly wat u eat on WW. With no white bread or potatoes, no refined sugars and wat they call good carbs I am finally losing wt! I drink probably a gal of water a day , use aloe vera juice for energy and Chia seeds to make me feel full. This is just wat works for me a life long dieter . And mab food for thot hehe!

I have never been to a WW meeting but I write down what I eat and add up the points. I could do calories instead but the points are quicker to do in my head. I don't just eat anything through. If I did and stuck to my points I would be starving. You need to use your points wisely for nutritious food not empty calories. I think writing down what you eat helps a lot because if you find you arn't loosing the weight you can go back and look at what you have been doing and figure out what the problem is. Also you may be less likely to eat something bad for you if you are going to force yourself to record it.

A food journal does help alot! Its what actually made me realize that with what I was eating and at my age I better re-evaluate my food intake! Haha. Its funny how sometimes you really dont realize you are eating too much until you write it down. Its also an eye opener too. I mean I really wasnt eating too bad before I changed my eating habits but it wasnt working for me. Diet bread, wheat noodles, a frozen diet dinner-all horrible for me. Even though I was eating those in a proper portion size and not all day long those foods were keeping me from losing. And Im sure me turning 45 soon wasnt helping the whole weight loss thing! Anyways eating like I am now has helped me in the past but I always just got away from it so this time I am not only doing it but even stricter and my results are amazing. I have never been happier and healthier. Im working out like a champ and running and sprinting better than I ever have! This is my way of life now. I dont consider it a diet, its the way I eat and will always eat. Life is good!

Another huge fan of WW here! I did WW a few years back and lost 40 pounds in about 6 months. I've dieted and tried all kinds of things over the years, but I've never been able to lose weight as easily as I did when I was on WW. As soon as you learn the plan, it is very easy to follow, and the people are so supportive. I joined and went to meetings, which I probably would not have done alone, but I had a friend ask me to go. Just knowing that I would weigh in every week motivated me and helped me stick to the plan. I loved it! I'd like to lose 10 pounds or so right now, and I'm thinking of restarting WW. Best of luck on your journey! |
