I have tried to give up soda a few times and failed. but with a new year is a new me! im dieting as well. been very good, eating lots of fruits. and limiting the amount of food that goes in my mouth. i love to cook and bake so naturaly i have a love for food. well, my last doctors app. i weighed in at 212!! i was embarassed, but looking at the nurse weighing me i knew she weighed more. anyways, i didnt share that number with my husband. we have been together for 7 years and when we first got together i was a beautiful 120lbs! now, i dont want to actualy be 120lbs again, but maybe a healthy 150. wish me luck. anybody else cutting things out of there diet or giving up any bad habits for the new year new you! -Misty

I need to start eating better too (& limiting what I eat). I do only drink diet soda so atleast im not getting the calories from that (I know it isnt healthy). I too was much thinner a long time ago.. but one husband and two beautiful daughters later.. well... I weigh as much as you do. Dont limit yourself too much, make it more of a lifestyle change than a diet. Do it to feel better and to be healthier. Good luck as I know its a hard thing to do.. but like you said, a new year a new you. Good luck to all of us! |

WTG and good luck! I gave up pop a year ago tomorrow, except for maybe one diet 7up once every week. I lost almost 50lbs, but still have quite a few to go. It is baby steps but try not to get discouraged. If you slip up, don't beat yourself up over it. Just pick it back up. Sparkpeople.com helps me keep track of my calories and exercise, as well as weight.

good for you on giving up soda, it does a lot of robbing of nutrients that hinder us from losing weight (magnesium/calcium) diet too. I challenge you to a water increase to shed pounds. everytime I use the ladies room, afterwards I drink a glass of water, I can pretty much guarantee you a 2lb weight loss this week with that trick. I'm up for it. how about you? |

Good for you! I got on the soda band wagon over the summer and boy I gained the weight! Love that Dr pepper! I have started weight watchers (doing it myself with info found on the web) and hope to be 20lbs lighter by May. Now if I could just find coupons for the healthy stuff like lettuce, tomatoes, etc.

Good for you! I slowly quit drinking mountain dew over the last couple years. Once I was down to 12 oz a day, it was much easier to quit and I didn't have any headaches. I am also on sparkpeople and I love it. Once I was off the caffeine, I didn't drink much pop but now I LOVE fanta. It's easier to stop drinking pop when there are other options around. I try to keep water, lemonade packets and other things to flavor my water when I need something different, gatorade G2 and apple juice around so I can drink those instead of pop.

I gave up soda in December, hope to make it a year soda free. My issue now is finding other things to drink in place. So far I have had apple juice, orange juice, pineapple juice but they aren't hitting 'the spot' Any other liquid replacements suggestions would be greatly appreciated for me

Very good for you! I am trying to cut out my diet soda. I get them for free, but still have the nagging feeling it's not good for me healthwise. It's hard to cut out soda, at least for me because it has that combined whammy of sweetness and caffiene.

I am limiting myself to 1 diet pop a day, and water or crystal light the rest of the time. I am also trying to lose about 20lbs. I got the Wii Fit for Christmas, and I love it. It has really made me think about what i am putting into my body. It is hard to break bad habits, but once you do, it will be smooth sailing. For me, I noticed I ate/drank a lot when I was on the computer, watching tv, or talking on the phone, just out of habit, not that I was actually thirsty or hungry. So now I grab some ice water instead of a can of pop. Keep up the good work, it will pay off in time!!

Best of Luck! I stopped drinking diet soda about 6 months ago ( let myself have 1 occas. now) I was so bloated from all of the carbonation.....and weighing in around the same as you........lost 7 pounds the first week just by replacing the diet soda with water, and using my urban rebounder ( would highly reccom) makes me feel young ( working out on a trampoline....there's nothing better! SOOOOOO much fun!) |

I've needed to do this for a while: I tried, unsuccessfully, a few weeks ago & made it for about a week. I'm going to restart today - the calories from soda really can pack on the pounds. I think I read/heard somewhere that cutting out soft drinks w/ calories (not sure if juice counts, too) can yield a 10 lb a year weight loss -without doing anything else. I will have to replace with water because I've never been able to drink diet or zero sodas. Good luck to you! I hope I can make it 21 days - that's how long it takes to make something a habit!! |

I'm not a soda person, but I do like the fizziness, so I mix 3 parts club soda with one part juice - either cranb/pom (no HFCS!) or V8 veg/fruit combo juices. With my Kohl's card for birthday/Christmas, one of the things I bought was a sodastream, to make my own bubbly water. ![]() They make mixes for soda, but we all like the juice. I adore this machine LOL. Should I have posted this on a thread about giving up soda?

I cut out regular sodas and have switched to diet. I am going to try and cut down eventually too. I heard today on Dr. Oz if you cut out one soda a day you'll lose 12 lbs in year. Well I look at it that I could drink a 2 liter at a time so I should be able to lose alot of weight if that's true. I am also going to watch what I am eating and start cutting things out or cutting them down alot.

I am cutting down on sweets and food in general. I drink diet and need to cut down on it too. Can't wait to get back to work so that I eat less. I get too busy at work and just eat a small lunch. I tend to eat more when I'm at home on vacation and sadly out of boredom.
