What is your favorite season?

Just curious since we are getting into a new season.

I like spring time the best since winter is finally over and the bugs have not come out yet!

Spring because everything is new and fresh. I do love Fall in New England, but not the tour buses that come through with all the leaf peepers!

"Snow Days"? What are they? Here in MN it has to be a blizzard before they close down the school. In the last 4 years there have been no snow days.

Funny you should mention snow days, here in Texas my boss closes the office if there is a good frost!! But we don't have the equipment to handle much snow or ice here and most times if we get anything at all it is ice.

Springtime in Arkansas is awesome, of course it does not last long...then we go into the long torturous months of summer. UGH-we get temps in the high 90's, low 100's sometimes with humidity of 95-100%, makes our wonderful heat indexes up in to the 100-120something ranges.....all I know is I hate July and August. Sometimes we have a pretty fall, too mnay times the summer heat just lingers on and on. We also get a lot of dry weather in late summer which makes the trees leaves die....But last year we had a beautiful fall show. Winter.....LOL...some winters it is so cold in the morning you send the kids to school all bundled up and by noon they have shed everything down to their t-shirts. We have had many Christmas holidays where we threw the windows open to let in fresh air. There is a saying around here that goes: If the only thing about Arkansas you don't like is the weather, hang around, it will be different tomorrow.

The New England version is: If you don't like the weather, wait a minute! After 85 yesterday, 50 is a bit chilly today. Where is the weather more temperate? I'm willing to relocate! I'm looking for 70's year round, double coupons up to $1.00, triples, wine tags, nice cashiers, cheap mortgage.

Is there a season without bugs and allergens? If you can find one, then that is my favorite. Otherwise winter because that is the closet thing here.

Snow Days

See, what happens here in the south is that we get a layer of ice on the road, then it snows a bit, then it switches back to ice. The plows (and we don't have enough 'cause we don't get enough snow to have tons) then scrape off the top layer of ice and the snow, but can't do anything about the bottom layer of ice, so they put down a salt and sand mixture that creates salty, sandy ice. Then, the next day, it's sunny and the ice melts, then at night the temp. drops, so it's ice again. Frequently this goes on for several days. Sometimes, we get hit with several storms like this in a row, so they get the main streets taken care of, but not the side streets, then have to go back to the main streets over and over, so the side streets never get plowed. So, then the school busses can't get into the neighborhoods. However, the kids can get out to go to the mall...apparently here in VA, they've never heard of "Open, no transportation".

Where I live in Rhode Island, the big joke is "No school Foster/Glocester" We are the first to cancel because we get the most snow. It drives the rest of the state crazy because the kids here are always out. They go back in August though. Here is a blog excerpt that sums it up pretty well:

Quote:
I can only speak from my experience with the term "No School Foster Glocester". Like many kids going to school in the late 70's and 80's, I sat by the radio on snowy mornings waiting for the cancellations to be announced on AM radio. You always wondered what the AM setting was for right?

Patiently, we waited for Salty to call off our city... anticipating a day to play in the white stuff. The announcements always started with "No school Foster Gloster!" This announcement didnt even get a rise of excitement out of my sister and I. We needed to hear the big city cancellations before putting on our snow suits. The fact is.....Foster Glocester cancelled school before the first flake would fall.

The number of snow cancellations in Foster Gloster made it a common joke for Salty's morning show. In reality, the number of cancellations was in fact laughable. I can remember listing to the commercials for Operation Snowball which included an audio clip of Salty announcing that there would no school for Foster Glocester.

What's Operation Snowball you ask? On snowy days, Salty's morning show turned into Operation Snowball. A show that would make or break the hearts of children across RI. Of course, few hearts were broken in Foster Glocester during Operation Snowball. I just wish they would have made announcements in June that there was "No School in RI except Foster Glocester". That would have made my day
