| Did your grandma give you Circus Peanuts?
When I was little it seemed like my grandma and any other old ladys were always giving me Circus Peanuts or Orange slices. Makes me wonder if they had a secret chocolate stash they kept for themselves and unloaded the nasty candy on the kids. |

and don't forget the butterscotch hard candy.... I know for a fact my grandpa kept russel stovers, planters peanuts, and butter mints in his bedside table. Dh's grandparents used to hide the vanilla wafers from him. (he will eat them all....even now as a grown up) |

circus peanuts, orange slices, raspberry slices, and 3 musketeers. I miss my grandma. She used to give me her change purse and tell me to divide all the change evenly between my sister and me---she was a great person.

For sure the circus peanuts and orange slices. My Grandpa used to give me after eight mints and Laura secord pudding and tell me not to tell anyone he was giving me this before dinner. I was sure we had a great secret going at that age but the thing is he did this in front of everyone so everyone knew anyways LOL My Great grandmother always had pringles (and yes along with circus peanuts) |

My Grandma always had sour balls and sugar cookies- the round ones with the holes in the middle, and we would put them on our fingers and eat around the edges. Thanks for helping me remember that! I miss my grandparents too- they died when I was in 4th and 5th grade. Didn't get to know them too ewll- wish I had. Then there is Dh who had his grandma up to just a few years ago!

My Grandmom always seemed to have those red and white peppermints with her. No matter what she was wearing!.. . She swore that they were good for whatever ailed you, especially an upset stomach. And for some reason, she always wanted us to eat bananas, of all things. That was something I've never been able to figure out. She passed away a few years ago at the ripe, old age of 94 and I still miss her every day.

Oh MY!!! I thought my Grandma was the only Grandma that gave me Circus Peanuts and Orange Slices! But dont forget the Spearmint leaves too!!!! Our local Sears store would have the candy dept with the lights on the candy. When ever we would go there Grandma would take me over to the candy dept and buy me a couple bags of candy! I miss my grandparents!!! |

Goldi: are you talking about the Sears in Lincoln Park? We used to go there too!!! They had the candy where the tools are now. We would get the chocolate stars with the white dots on top. I miss my grandparents and my Mother.

My MawMaw used to give my brother and I circus peanuts, orange slices and spearmint leaves. She always had Coca-Cola in her fridge (which was covered with pictures of her grandchildren and magnets). My grandparents had a farm and they always had fresh produce to give us, including brown eggs and fresh milk.

My Dad used to buy those yucko circus peanuts......I ate them at the time.......but now~~I couldn't do it. I used to like the candy buttons.......the little candy dots that you peel off paper (or bite off). I still get those sometimes. And we used to get those little marshmallow cones too. Did you know that there is a website that sells all "old-fashioned" candy that you can't find anymore. I know we can still find most of these things.......but I saw a show about the site once. Looked pretty neat. |

My dad ate those till the day he died, bless his soul! DH still eats the orange slices. Anytime I'm at the CVS and need a quick filler, that's what I use! (Do you know I actually saw the Circus Peanuts in there too??? Look for 'em there if you like 'em!)

I picked up a pack of circus peanuts at CVS as a filler once. Thought it would be cool for the kids to try. I think they may have been left over from when I was a kid. GAG me with a spoon, LOL

I have NEVER, NEVER bought Circus Peanuts or orange slices ~ wouldn't take them home if they were free! Wasn't Grandma, was my step-mom that bought them. My Daddy, he would bring me the circle caramels with the white centers and the jelly circles. He would get one of each out of vending and bring me home 1/4 - 1/2 of each. I still love those caramel thingies, especially when they are fresh!

My Pawpa always gave us Wrigley's gum, I hated the Juicy Fruit (YUCK) it was way too sweet for my taste, still is..... as for the Circus Peanuts and the Orange Slices, My Dear Departed Dad was the one that gave those to us along with the Maple Nuggets, I still to this day will buy them, Talk about a quick sugar fix!!!!

My grandma (who is still alive) always keeps gum drops in this amber-colored crystal candy jar. My grandpa is a diabetic and never eats them so they get as hard as rocks. She also always has butterscotch hard candy around.

I have never like those circus peanuts and in 3rd grade the teacher gave those out when you learned multiplication....if you knew your 1's you got 1 peanut....if you learned your 2's you got 2....etc.....I got up to the 5's and totally lost interest~!! I still blame her for my later problems in math!!!! If she would have JUST had a candy that I liked.....
