Hi, I'm new to couponing as of about 6 months! I really enjoy it, and I'm lucky b/c my Kroger triples up to 50 cents, so when there are good online coupons, I definately take advantage of it!! My only problem is, we just got a new computer/printer combo, and the printer runs through ink like crazy. It's a canon pixma mp240. I've already gone through two things of black and color ink. Any suggestions of printers that reserve ink, or like a commercial grade printer? I'm sure they are out there b/c libraries print TONS of stuff, and I'm sure they use good printers. I'm thinking of getting another printer soon. My dh is in scool, so we need the ink to last for that and my coupon obsessions!! Thanks for all suggestions!

We just purchased an HP officejet J6450 All-in-One. It is very good on ink. we set it to fast print so we dont use as much ink. Try that and see if it helps.

first, you need to set your printer to draft mode...do this when you are not printing and the setting will stay for all print jobs I have also heard laser printers are the most economical on ink [toner], but there is larger up front investment...also, typically no color, if that is a consideration

I would look into a laser printer. I have 2- one I got a great deal on with my entire computer system 10 years ago- the computer is long gone, but the printer still works great. Its a HP LaserJet 2100, which was made for a small business more so then home. I picked up a little newer HP LaserJet 2200 for $25 used a year or so ago- it takes the same toner cartridge plus it can print front & back on its own, but other then that, its the same thing. I can pick up refilled toner cartridges on Ebay at 2/$27, including S/H- and one cartridge prints 5000+ pages. They print at 18ppm, which puts them in line with most inkjets, speed wise. I don't know about current laser printers as I haven't shopped for one in a long, long time. One thing you want to look into is how many pages you can print from one cartridge and if you can get refilled ones easily. I know at one point years ago, when refilled laser cartridges were not readily available, I looked into getting a different laser printer because the cartridges for mine were so expensive. What I found out was that a lot of the other laser printers had cartridges rated for 2000 pages...no wonder they were half the price of my cartridges |

select your printer and click on properties > printing preferences... there will probably be 3 choices for print mode... - draft or fast [mine is called Quick Print] - normal - best or high quality

We picked up a laser printer at staples for $69 about a year ago. LOVE IT. I have printed over 1000 sheets of paper on the orginal toner cartridge and it is finally due to be replaced. A toner cartridge runs about $30-35. The model is a brother HL2140. It prints extremely quick (24 pages per minute). Only draw back is black/white only. Brother HL-2140 | Compact Laser Printer Edit - I checked prices and it appears the toner cartridge is about $30-35 when bought online at Amazon. (My orignal price in the email was $25). Staples, Office Depot and others are running about $50 to buy in store. This particular model can not have the toner cartridge refilled. Other brother models can be refilled. Last August (2008), we actually bought a HP LaserJet 2840, which is an all-in-one. It was originally priced at $800+. One of the Office Supply stores had it on sale for half-price and Staples matched it. We just (in the last month) actually replaced the black cartridge. Granted a $400+ Laser printer is out of range of some folks, but at the time, it was a good thing for us, because of the number of copies I make for rescue stuff (informational folders, etc). So it just made sense for us at that time. Love it! Della |

| Now that I think of it the $69 was after one of those famous Staples rebats. Still, $79 at officemax is still a pretty good price. Many times these places will have save $x off your order of $xxx, and, these stores will price match each other. So find a good coupon first, and then see if your closest store will price match the other.

My favorite printer is a free one!!!! We actually have a couple of these due to recent macbook purchases and they usually offer a all in one printer as part of the package. The one we use the most is a canon photosmart 4380, I have changed the default settings to maximize the toner but one of the biggest savings we found was by purchasing the extra large size toner cartridge. It lasted longer than we thought it would and my DH found a website that sells them as refills so they are less expensive than buying new. (i'll have to wait for him to come home so I can ask him which website) We have tried refilling our own cartridges in the past but this didn't really work for us, it was too messy and the pages were very smeared. Good luck.
