| Questions about Handing candy out for Halloween..........
Do you get only peanut free items, or do you get a variety of items and leave the responsibility of peanut allergy up to the parents? How much pieces do you give to each child. Do you hand it out or let them pick? If you let them pick ........Do you tell them how many they can have or just have them grab a handful?? Also add any more tips etc . |

I get a variety of candy and leave the responsibility to the parents. We hand out the candy about 2-3 pieces to each child.

We give out full size candy bars 1 per kid, I let the parents of the kids worry about peanut allergies and such.

I've let kids pick for themselves one year. Big mistake. I was out of candy after just a few groups. Now I hand out about 2-3 per child. I also let the parents worry about the food allergies. There are so few options left if you rule out all of the possible food allergies. I'm curious to hear what others give out if they consider allergies.

We leave the allergy worries to the parents. We are handing out miniature Snickers and M&M's - along with some Wonka things, probably one of each, 2-3 pieces. We hand them out. We've run out before because those bigger kids would take a lot. We usually run real close at the end as it is with 6-7 bags of candy. If they have little one, we usually give something suitable for a toddler, raisins, mum-mums -- maybe this year we'll break out the boxes of Nutripals that our granddaughter doesn't like!!

This will be the first time I will really be handing out candy at my place. I always did it at my parent's house. They would always get some chocolate candy and some candy other than chocolate and give out one or two of each. My dad is lactose intolerant and I used to be so we couldn't have too much chocolate. I think we did a mix of handing out candy and letting the kids pick. We never worried too much about allergies. I figure if someone's got an allergy, they should know and it shouldn't be my responsibility if they get something that they can't have. I think it is nice to have a variety of candy so that if someone is allergic to peanuts or something else that they do get something so if the kids or parents mention something then I will do my best to find something that they can have. My sister and I always traded candy when we got done trick or treating so we always ate different candy than we actually got. Sometimes we'd trade our candy for leftover candy my parents had. My chocolate allergy wasn't serious so I could have some chocolate, but I never worried about getting too much while trick or treating because I could trade my sister for other candy that I could have more of. |

I bought some peanut m&m's. Never thought of the peanut allergy issue, though. I may hold those back for myself, . I'm really into Halloween and only buy the good stuff. I usually put 2-3 pieces of candy in a paper goody bag. The kids in the neighborhood get really excited when they see me handing these out. One time a kid asked if he could have two of them, the nerve, . Halloween is on a Saturday, so I'm thinking the crowd will be bigger this year. DH gets to bring any leftover candy to work.

I had already bought Reeses cups, but then I thought of the peanut allergy thing...so DH and I will just keep the Reeses! We're doing little goody bags of candy for each child, but we have some back-up candy in case we run out of bags. This is our first Halloween at our new house, so we're not sure how big the crowd might be!

I'm handing out pre-made treat bags stuffed with one full size candy bar (snickers or reese's) and two each fun size three musketeers, milky way, and plain m&m's to the bigger kids, and smaller pre-made bags with one each fun size three musketeers and milky way to the littlest kids. I'm going to go buy some more reese's with my coupons and some dollar store candies this week in case we get more trick-or-treaters than I initially planned for. This is our first Halloween at this house, last year in a different town we got NO ONE but maybe this year will be better. ![]() As for food allergies, that's up to the parents. My husband is casein intolerant (he's allergic to a protein found in milk) so I'll be buying some dairy-free candy for him, .

I leave the allergy thing up to the parents. I am handing out full size candy bars-all the ones ive gotten FREE lately, Reeses, snickers, milkyway, mentos gum...etc. I am also handing out Wags halloween pencils and capri sun juice boxes. Im usually the "HOT" house on my side of town (ok, so its small and we have 2 streets ) but I love to spoil all the kids!!!We are lucky also that our school district has the high school kids trick or treat for items for the food shelf, gonna have to start cleaning out the cupboards and finding the FREE stuff i don't use (like the poligrip at wags this week) that i got that i don't need and haven't given away already. Love this idea, and saves me a trip! The kids collect a lot of food and this is our biggest food drive in the area for the food shelf for the year.

I get a big bag of mars candy (because Sam likes to eat them in between knocks at the door ) and each kid gets two until it's gone. I figure parents look over their kids' stashes anyway, so they can make the appropriate decisions about allergies.

this year i have tons of reeses to give out...so I will get a small bowl of other candy for those with allergies. Also I will be doling out the candy instead of letting kids stick there hands in. With the flu and colds going around the less handling the better.

From the allergy-parent-perspective... I let my son trick-or-treat one of two ways. Our family members and close friends know which candy is safe for DS. If we go anywhere else, DS takes the candy, but he does not eat anything until we get home. At that point I check it all, and if there is something not safe I trade it out with him- candy I've bought just for this purpose- and I take the other candy to work or something like that. I would say that if a kid has a food allergy, the parents (any responsible parent) would not let the child just open up stuff and start eating. And if they're going door-to-door, the parents will have a plan in place to deal with the possibility of the child getting candy they can't eat. My son is allergic to both nuts and cocoa. Neither allergy is anaphylactic but still bad stuff, and you can imagine Halloween is a "trick" (ooh I made a funny) for us. DS is 9 and trained very well. If he is offered to pick his own, he'll pick the right stuff (Skittles or Smarties or gum). If there is only chocolate, he'll take it and say thank you and give it to me in the car and I'll trade it out for him.

I hand out the mini play dough tubs. the kids get enough candy. i think play dough is a fun change anyway. if theres any peanut allergy involved with that, i guess the parents will need to have a chat with their kids about eating the play dough!
