| Do you use Freecycle in your area?
I use my local freecycle alot. It's a very active group. I have received lots of great useful items.I'll list a few items i've been given: Brand new 72 piece silverware setting 8 porcelain dolls (nib) i'm a collector new clothes new catbed bag of new bath & body works items I've given away alot of stuff too. This is a great site, much better than Craig's List. All i've ever dealt with there were very strange people.I'm happy with my local area.

Yes to Freecycle for me! I really do not use it much but I have offered some and received only a few things. I found it to be very useful after a garage sale to just post that everything left is free and come and get it. It makes it a lot easier on us and I am glad that people are able to get the things they need. Thanks Nicole |

YES! I use it too. I have gotten some great things and given some too. The stove that we were using up til yesterday was a freecycle stove. Was and is still in great condition. Digital display and all. Just upgraded to new stuff and planning to freecycle it again.

I get the emails sent to me and I have responded to a few things but never got anything (always gone already)...haven't posted anything yet but probably will soon...haven't been a member long (a few months) and just haven't gotten a chance to do it. On a side note a friends church has something like this about twice a year. You bring all your unwanted stuff (like yard sale stuff) and who ever wants it takes it...I just got some VHS tapes (disney movies), the 24 DVD season 1, clothes for my son, some toys, space bags, some stamps and a Debbie Macomber hard cover book...ut was great can't wait till next time (my friend got a huge box of pampers)... So if you belong to a church, maybe consider organizing this...anything that is left over gets donated to goodwill or something like that... |

I do like freecycle, but people dont show up when they are supposed to, and some are picky. I put some bottles on one time and someone emailed me and said if they are avent she would take them if not she didnt need them. I thought that was kind of rude. Free is free, dont be picky. Sometimes I just take the stuff to goodwill if I want it gone really bad because I know it will be out of my house and I dont have to wait on someone to respond then wait and see if they will pick it up.

When I was in Atlanta, I loved our Freecycle group. We all were very active and I only had 1 no show. But now that I moved, this group down here is so un-organized. I've only had 1 thing actually picked up and that was a very positive experience. I've sent an email to the moderator to make suggestions on how to improve the group but never got any reply.

I am a freecycle group owner. I would really love to have less rules but people can be so petty that we have to implement more and more rules which makes moderating it more and more time consuming. When I saw your post offering suggestions to your local moderator, I was curious about what your suggestions were...... If you don't mind, I'd love to know what suggestions you have. Thanks

It's ok if you have stuff you want to get rid of, but some people are so greedy and just take whatever they can because it is free. I had a lady want a baby thing I was giving away but then I came to find out that she just wanted children some day. In my opinion, that is selfish to hoard when these kind of things continually pop up on freedycle and with the hurricane and economy a lot of people could have really used the item RIGHT THEN. I also tire of this newlywed couple who post 3-5 wants at atime and never offer anything. Perhaps they are responding to want ads, so I can't say for sure they never reciprocate. It did bother me that the girl asked for rugs with the colors of green, gold, adn dark red in them. Dude...be realistic!

we actually have a nice little group. we get together once a year and have a cookout and "free garage sale" where you just bring stuff you are meaning to post, and you can take anything you need for free. its fun. i think people sometimes miss the point of freecycle. its to keep things out of landfills by giving them to some one else. it is not a charity thing (even thought it often helps ppl out who can not afford new items). i honestly think its is ok to ask for a very spacific item. like the lady someone said only wanted her bottles if they were aavent. i don't think that is rude. if i were planning to buy that brand i think its totally ok to ask first just incase someone else is done with them. i wouldn't go get a brand i wasn't planning on using. jmho.

I gave a few things away on FC but got to the point where there were too many no shows and a waste of my time so quit participating.

I just joined a couple of months ago. I picked up a great load of baby stuff a few months back. I then picked up a bunch of paint that DH told me should have been disposed of 10 years ago and was kinda upset about b/c now we have to pay to dispose of. I guess you can't win them all. I have given away a couple of things to people posting want ads, but just this past week posted my first offer. I was really irritated. After 3 no shows I finally got someone to come, and they came a day after they said they would. I was really upset b/c I said I would hold it, but wanted to know for sure when they were coming so the animals wouldn't get into it. So much for people being honest. I guess you just have to take it for what it's worth... FREE. |

I have had a few no-shows but to me it's not a big deal.I just e-mail the next person in line.I don't care what they do with the items i give them. Yes, I'd rather it go to someone in need but sometimes you just want rid of stuff. I just gave a walker to an old lady who was in desperate need, made me feel good to help her. Like i said before, i don't want to deal with the nuts on Craig's List & my local site seems to be normal (so far).
