| Positive sign for shaw's
Last week one of my town's shaw's was flooded. But the positive side I think is the extreme they are going to repair the store-- down to cement floors, bare walls and ceiling. NOTHING is being kept. Yes this could be argued that it's a health risk thing, but i see it as a positive sign for the remaining stores. They could just treat the shelfing and stuff vs gutting and replacing the whole store. They say it will have a different feel and better look-- hope it will end up like the garden city store here. This had been an older store in a neighborhood with few grocery stores in the general area. Here is a news link in case anyone wants to look-- the video should go to the shaw's after a few seconds. It's the one on Warwick Ave. What a mess - their parking lot floods when it THINKS about raining, I can't even imagine what the inside of the store looked like last week. UGH! |

It was really bad! I live right down the street- I watched someone standing on a car have to be rescued by the fire department; the current was crazy!! Even though they had a motor in the boat they were using , the fire dept. had a hard time getting the guy!! My dad also works in a business right behind Shaws off the side street and the business was under 4 feet of water-wrecked all of the machines and computers inside! They hired 7 companies to fix it and offered all of the 234 employees to come into work to help clean it out! I can only imagine it's going to take a while to fix.

Funny, because when my son asked about the flooded areas he wanted to know what "Lake Shaws" looked like. That Shaw's parking lot is always awful when it rains. We pulled up a video and all he could say was "All those video games, what a waste". They have a Game Crazy in the same lot! LOL he's 13, I guess I couldn't expect anything different

My husband use to go to the stain glass studio in the plaza next door-- she closed the business in jan, which was a good move on her part-- i'm sure she would have lost everything. My mom drove down there on that tues afternoon-- she was glad she made it through. I'm going to miss the dollar store that was next door.

OHhh! I never even thought about the Dollar Store! I love that place. There is another one on Oaklawn Ave, in the Marshalls plaza - but I like the one near Shaw's better. I wonder if they will re-open as well.

At least a new store will help the neighborhood. I hate going into a store and having everything look like crap inside. It always makes me wonder what the back room looks like and if food is being stored properly. |

I'm not happy about the flooding - but I sure do wish they would redue all the shaws! They are so much cleaner and nicer. I'm sure more people would shop there as well. People like nice new places!

I agree that lots of Shaw's (Shaw'ses?) could use a facelift. We have one newer one close by and it's head and shoulders above the others.

Building 19 1/2 should be having some kick butt sales coming up. Lots of time they have to liquidate everything in the store even if it is dry for insurance purposes.
