Ibotta Help?

I'm a pretty tech-savvy person and I cannot get this thing to work.

I already took a picture of my receipt. Now I'm on a screen that says "Confirm Purchases" at the top and right below that "Select products on this receipt". All 3 items shown are on my receipt. When I click on the products it takes me to what appears to be a barcode scanner? But it doesn't do anything. I don't need to scan the barcode since I'm confident my items match. At the bottom is says "Submit Receipt" but when I click it nothing happens. And every time I click on a product it takes me to that barcode screen.

Am I missing something obvious?

I don't know if there is an easier way but I always just scan the barcode when it does that and it says "item matched"; it usually only takes like a half a second. Works for me. Hth.

Even if I try that it says Tap here to focus when ready but it never actually scans the barcode.

For me, I have to scan the barcode of each item when I get to that screen, because that's how it gives you credit for your purchases. Maybe try shutting down your phone or device and retry?

I heard back from Customer Service - apparently quite a few people are having the same issue. They're going to fix it and put out an update later this week.

That's good news! This app is by far the fastest I've used in terms of compensation. Sounds like they responded pretty quickly to you with a Customer Service issue too

what is ibotta? and do you have to have a smart phone to use it?

i really hate how the world is forcing people to use smart phones, there is no way i am going to pay the monthly fee that goes along with the smart phones, but then again, i shouldnt be 'punished' for not having one.

I don't think it's necessarily punishing as it is times are changing. A lot of people cannot afford computers and smartphones truly offer them the connivence of it . It is one of those adapt or get left behind things I guess.

thanks for responding, but you never really told me what it was. i tried to go to the web site but i cant find out what exactly it is and the rewards and stuff you get....

does it have to be used from a smart phone? just because majority of the world uses a smart phone doesnt mean it has to be used from a smart phone.

I haven't redeemed anything on my app, my sister did & just scanned the items, the receipt and it all worked fine. She got compensated in less than 24 hrs. She has an android Motorola Defy.

For those who want more info: Ibotta is an app for Iphone, Ipad, and Android. Im assuming it would also work on other tablets with camera functions. It is somewhat similar to Savingstar if you're familiar with that app.

One offer right now is Sprite save .75 So you do the 3 tasks for Sprite: Play trivia (.25) Take a poll (.25) and share on Facebook (.25) then purchase Sprite at any participating retailer. Then 'redeem' through the app & scan the Sprite barcode, then the receipt. Ibotta then adds .75 to your account which can be deposited into your Paypal. I think there is a minimum to pay out, ($5?) but I haven't found that info yet. I also read that Ibotta is able to offer higher amounts due to direct relationships with manufacturers.

Yes, it's somewhat unfair you have to have a smartphone to be able to access apps like this.
A little bit off subject but, There are budget friendly options out there: Republic Wireless republic wireless - The Mobile Network that Runs on Freedom
works on wi-fi, and uses Sprint's signal when Wifi isn't available. It only costs $20 a month plus tax ($5-7). My sister got it a few months ago & is happy with the service. I plan on switching when my Verizon contract is up. The downside is you have to pay for the phone (a Motorola Defy) up front ($260) but the savings per year for me will be significant

It is just another way of saving. Is it fair that you need a computer and printer for IPs? Is it fair that the only guaranteed way to receive newspaper inserts is with a subscription? These are just perks that we have grown to accept as common. Money earning apps are just the newest thing. At some point theyy will be common as well.

I just tonight decided to get an iPhone. I have been trying for months to figure out if I can make enough in money saving/ making apps that I cant currently use with my wi-fi only iPad. I decided to give it a go. I would be happy to pay $5-$10 a month to have access to the internet virtually anywhere (read: access to AFC in non free wi-fi stores ). I feel like I can bridge the gap between my current phone bill ($10/ month) and the iPhone bill with money generating apps.

But no one is 'forcing' me to do this. It was a choice I have made. I could forgo these money saving opportunities that are unique to smart phones.

It is an app so it can only be run on something that can run apps. I am not certain if it is available in all app stores.

does it have to be used from a smart phone? just because majority of the world uses a smart phone doesnt mean it has to be used from a smart phone.
You don't have to have a Smartphone to be able to use this app and be stuck with a monthly bill. BUT you do need either an ipod 5 or ipad 3 or higher to use it. At least if you get one of those you won't also have to pay a monthly fee each month for phone service. I think you could buy a used ipad or ipod pretty cheap now that new ones are out. And then use the app savings to pay for it.

Or you could get an ipod 4 to work with it but you will only (at this point) have access to about 6 of the 30 stores they work with. (one being Walmart) They are trying to see if it's possible to get other stores to work with an ipod 4.

OR to make it even cheaper (FREE) if you had a friend or relative you see alot that owns any of those devices you could install the app on their device and use their device to upload your receipts. It's doesn't take long to do that so you would only need to borrow it for a bit. You could then write down the products you are interested in buying an do the activities needed to get the money for the product once you purchase it.

I won't pay $80-$100 just to have an iphone. I did break down and purchase a jetpak to use with my ipod/ipad so I could have internet anywhere I go. It cost $35 a month but much better than $80-$100. I can also use google voice if I need to make phone calls. (which is rare)

I hope this helps!

i really hate how the world is forcing people to use smart phones, there is no way i am going to pay the monthly fee that goes along with the smart phones, but then again, i shouldnt be 'punished' for not having one.
I have 2 smart phones (both for work) and my bills on each of these phones are $ 40.00 per month for unlimited everything. They are boost phones and the amounts start at $ 55.00 per month and use the Sprint network. Before we switched from Sprint to Boost my plan for unlimited everything was over $ 100.00 per month. My companies actually save money by me having a smart phone and using Boost. Check around you can get smartphones cheaper than you think.
