So i just found out that we have one of these in my town. Drove by it, looks a little run down and shady. I was wondering if there store brands and such are of ok quality or should i stick to name brands there? Should i start shopping there regular or not? Also found out we have the pigglie wigglie. I usually stick the the ARMY commissary but am willing to branch out to these two if it was worth it. Any advise? What about meat? Fresh? Not? Thanks Guys!

I love Save a lot, living in FL being stocked up on canned goods during the summer is a must (part of the hurricane kit) and their products are just as good as the "name" brands for half the price, their produce is high quality and inexpensive, meats are meats, they pretty much all come from the same packing plants (just different labels, a friend of mine who was a butcher at Publix told us that) and on occasion they have killer deals on name brand stuff (esp with coupons). Give them a try, worst that can happen is you won't like it, but you will never know until you check it out.

Some of their store brands are just as good as the name brand items. Their veggies are one of them as are their soups. Their prices are very reasonable (at least they are here). Veggies are abotu .39 a can I think. Meat... I can usually find a good meat sale there. 5 pkgs for 19.99 (always go for the biggest packages that are marked in the sale because you'll come out ahead). The meat has always been fresh for me here. I usually just buy the chicken and the ground beef there. Occasionally a roast or two if the price is right. Their meat prices beat Walmarts and others around here though most of the time. They don't carry a lot of name brand items but they do accept manufacturer coupons for the ones they do carry. You can see a list of the name brand items they carry here in this previous post: http://www.afullcup.com/forums/save-...ands-list.html You can go to the Save-A-Lot website and sign up for emails as well as their baby club if you have need for that. Piggly Wiggly..... prices are rather higher there than other stores in my area. They do double to .50 coupons here but even with that, I don't find very many deals there or even in their sales ads so I don't go there very often. |

Yes, Save-A-Lot is a grocery store but it's not a full grocery store as it does not have a deli or a bakery and it's a scaled down grocery store as compared to say a Bi-Lo or Kroger or Publix. Much smaller than those. |

But you can go to this list here and see a compilation of brand items they carry (or at least in the stores here) http://www.afullcup.com/forums/save-...ands-list.html They accept IP's at the stores here as well. |

I LOVE SAL and have shopped there for years, even before I started using Q`s to save. I find nothing wrong with any of their brands except for the coffe which I think has a Sweet Taste to it, at least the Instant Does. I stick with Maxwell House or Folgers though, other than that I shop there and save money over other stores. We had one in our town but it closed down so the nearest one is 30miles away, but I run there at least once per month to get stuff and go to WAGS too, as there is not one here either. The rest of the time I shop at my local Town and Country Supercenter, its a Country Mart store and has great deals too.

I'm very happy to have a new Save A Lots coming right down the street from us. Thanks for the heads up about the e-mails and the baby club. I buy for my family the frozen peppers and onions. My girls love the snack crackers and cookies. |

| Sav A Lot is a great store!
Quite a few Save A Lots have been opened here in the Houston area. Their store brand items are just as good as the name brands. They take coupons for the name brands. Their store brand ice cream cones with the nuts are pretty good!

YMMV with Sav-A-Lot. We have one the next town over and it's pretty horrible. The store is dark and dirty. The produce is always awful and the meat is usually old. I bought orange juice there once and it was so spoiled it had chunks in it!! They said they would refund my money if I brought it back but by the time I drove the 30 miles to return it I wasn't coming out ahead so I just quit going there. BUT there is one about 30 miles the other way that is much much better! It's clean and well lit and has good prices and good stock. So, YMMV Check it out!PS I bought almost all my son's baby foods at SAL - it was about 20 to 30 cents cheaper a jar there!! (and they took coupons on top of that) |

You're right not all SAL's are alike. There is four within a 45 mile radius of me. Two of them are locally owned and are not as well taken care of as the others.
