They are running a deal right now that if you buy 4 Halloween Hallmark cards you get $5 off. If you have a store that sells 99cent cards this ends up being a money maker. Hope that helps someone.

With the price of stamps I think I'll have to pass on Halloween cards. Do people really even send them? call me a cheapskate, I only send out Birthday cards and Christmas cards every year. I never seem to find good deals like that when I need Birthday cards. I rermember Safeway had a deal a few months ago where if you bought 3 cards you get a free 12 pack of coke or maybe it was Pepsi so I thought that was a pretty good deal.

$1.03 OVERAGE. Very nice. Wonder if I could get enough for all my neighbors.

Just make sure they do not say "warm wishes" on the back, the deal won't work on those. Even if Halloween cards aren't your thing, think about all those other .99 cards!!!

Right now it's only the Halloween cards that are giving you the $5 back. As long as it's a money maker I'm buying them. I'll just give them away to a neighbor or someone who could use them. I'll send a few to my son's teacher to use as she wishes. I won't turn my nose up at something they're paying me to take out of the store!

In theory I could buy 28 for my middle daughter to pass out in her classroom, and another 20 for my youngest daughter....and make $12+

I could then use that $ on some cheap Safeway stuffs for the Food Bank!

Is it as simple as it sounds, buy 4 cards, they hand you $5, you put down four more cards, rinse, repeat? Or would I buy 48 cards and ... say $12 in food, pay them $50 and get $50 back? Or are these some form of register rewards, etc?

I think it only works on 4 cards at a time. And they take $5 instantly, just like the deal they are running right now for 5/$5. If you go and only buy 4 99cent cards your total will be in the negative and they won't allow that. I just pick up 4 every time I go. Which since the $5/5promo I'm going almost every day. HTH

It might be that not all Safeway's are doing this. But I have had several people all over the United States that have confirmed this deal. It also might be your store doesn't have any signs up yet for this deal. The deal is buy 4 Halloween cards and get $5 off instantly on your bill. The only way to make it a money maker is to see if your store carries the 99cent Halloween cards. Worse case senario, you buy 4 and if the $5 doesn't come off you can immediately go to the customer service desk and just say, I heard there was a promotion on your Halloween cards if you buy 4 you get $5 off your total. Then they can either return your cards you don't want OR they will give you $5 cash. I do believe this is a nation wide promo though.
My store is sometimes behind in getting their signage up. OR you can call your local Safeway and just ask if this is a promo in that store.

If your store doesn't have any Halloween cards in yet, then I doubt they'd put up any signage to promote this deal. They might just be waiting on a shipment to come in.

I just talked to some people and it looks like some Safeways are running the buy 4 cards get $5 off, others are running buy 5 get $5 off. So it's either a money maker or it's free depending on your specific store.

When I went shopping yesterday evening a sign said buy 4 Hallmark Halloween cards and get $5.00 off so I decided to give it a try and sure enough it worked here in Gresham, Oregon. I have to go back in and get the Glade deal so I'll just pick up a few more cards. They are actually pretty cute little cards and I'll just give a few out to some neighbors and good friends. Thanks again for posting this. Gotta love it when the store just gives you things like this and even gives you a little extra too, it all helps on your final end at the register. I amaze myself at times since I've only been couponing for a year now. Wished I would have started a lot earlier so maybe I could have quit working long ago. I think hubby likes my good deals too and I try to make sure he see's what I can get for cheap or free.

I just started couponing about 4 months ago. I mainly use "the grocery game dot com" it won't let me post the url, but you get the idea. Anyway I pay $10 every 8 weeks, so $1.25 week and it tells me what all the deals are, advertised and UNADVERTISED. It's been an AMAZING help to out monthly budget. I used to spend about $800-$900/month for our family of 5. I know spend between $350 and $450/ month. That includes all groceries, health and beauty, cat food/ litter. and diapers for two kids. We've been able to really start attacking our debt with all that extra money not being spent on groceries. And on top of saving tons I have more food than I even know what to do with along w/ gobs of shampoo, razors, soap, laundry supplies etc etc etc. Anyway, not to go off on a soap box, but if you want more info, PM me.
I also pull my hubby aside after I've gone shopping and show him my receipt and say, LOOK, WE JUST SAVED $100!! Ok, i'm getting off my soap box.

Oh nooo really? I only got 8 cards and was planning on getting more today. Well hey guess great deals like that won't last forever so I better just move on to the next deal now.
