Help Sign Please help me understand...

So went to Rite Aid. Grabbed 8 Pantene. Used (4) $3/2 cpns +(4)BOGO cpns because their cpn policy states a customer can use a BOGO cpn in conjunction with a fixed value cpn as long as the value does not exceed the price of the item. This was my first time going to Rite Aid. I picked this scenario because I have read many many times of others doing the exact same transaction and it working just fine for them, plus, I needed shampoo and was looking for a good deal! So assuming, others exact transaction of the same cpns/product worked AND that I understood their policy I went and tried it...did not go as planned I got 8 Pantene at $4.50 each. The guy scanned (3) $3/2, I had 4 of these cpns but he missed one and so did I. Then he scanned (2)BOGO cpns, all was fine and I had 2 more to go and was getting excited that I was about to do my very first Rite Aid cpn deal..then he went to scan the 3rd BOGO cpn and the register beeped! The last (2) BOGO would not scan and the register would say "matching product not found". So the guy shrugs his shoulders and gets the manager. The manager had an attitude before even getting to the register. He then just enters in manually the last (2)BOGO cpns. I asked what did I do wrong? I had the cpn policy in hand and asked if he could help me understand? He just looked at me, said he entered the (2) BOGO in and walked off rudely! I paid $12 for all 8 Pantene and walked out. I am SUPER shy, and he was super rude, so I did not want to bother asking him to help me understand again, and now I do not want to go back there either even though I have several more of these cpns to use and they expire in 4 days. So, what did I do wrong or what happened? I just want to understand, I am not out to scam anyone or anything, I just simply am new to Rite Aid couponing and I thought I understood the policy and others online had no issues doing the same transaction..so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You ended up paying exactly what you should have:

Buy 8 @ $4.50 each = $36.00
Use 4 BOGO free coupons ($4.50 X 4 = $18.00)
Balance now of $18.00
Use 2 coupons to save $3 off 2 = $6.00
Balance of $12.00

I don't know if you expected to pay less or you can't understand why your transcation didn't go smoothly. What went wrong was you handed over too many $3/2 coupons. You cannot use both a $/2 coupon and a BOGO Free coupon on the same bottle. The $3/2 coupon attaches to 2 bottles and you can use no more coupons on them.

Therefore, when buying 8 bottles, you use 4 BOGO free coupons to get 4 free.
That only leaves you 4 bottles on which to use your other coupons. Since your coupons were to save when buying 2, you are only allowed to use 2.

If your coupons had been to save on 1, you could have used 4.

Does that make sense?

I guess I was thinking like the way it works at my grocery store. When I use a BOGO cpn the 2 products are half off, not one completely $0.00. So I assumed I would have 8 bottles half their normal price instead of (4) $0 and (4) regular price. Then with the 8 bottles being now half price, I would then had been able to use (4) $3/2 making the total $8.I also had read others online doing this and all was working for them so I assumed it would work. I am new to Rite Aid and only have been cpning for 2 months now so new to cpning too. So I just assumed/misunderstood wrong. So, I can use (4)BOGO cpns +(2)$3/2 and be okay then. Thank you for explaining it so that I understand better!

Yes, every store is different and it is important to be familiar with the store policies in order to get the best deals.

At some stores BOGO free means half price and you can just buy one item. At others, like RA, BOGO free means one is full price and one is zero.

However, even if RA were like your supermakert, you would not have been albe to use both a BOGO free mfr coupon and a cents off mfr coupon on the same item. You could use a BOGO free to get one free and use a cents on the one you paid for. Either you misunderstood what you read on line that others were doing or they posted misinformation.

Rite Aid is tricky and they change their policies and programs often, but it can be worth you time to learn about them. I get all my milk, eggs and bread there free (not to mention all my HBA items) with money maker deals. Not only do they have UP Rewards and Single Check Rebates, but they also have QR couopns, in-ad coupons, Video Value coupns and Load2Card coupons, and they will let you use 3 coupons on one item so long as each is a different type (manufacturer, 48 store or 49 store).

PLUS they give you a discount after you shop there enough. I LOVE my Rite Aid.

Sorry this didn't work out for you, but there is a big learning curve in the beginning and it gets easier with time. Chalk it up to a lesson learned and cheap shampoo!

Hey,

Welcome to the forum!

I'm just wondering did you do this deal today? I believe two weeks ago, just realized I didn't go to RA this week (they probably miss me ), was the deal where you could get them free. When you say $4.50 each that sounds like the retail price.

When the free deal was going on it was like this...
Buy 4 @ $3.50 : $14
(2) B1G1F: -$7
(1) $3/2: -$3
there was also a $4 UP

So, you would just walk away paying tax, Also remember that there was an UP limit per card. I know because I did this deal and was able to use family member cards to get a ton.

Sorry it didn't work out well. Don't worry, If it's your first time you usually discover you could have done things differently and walked away with more. I've done that a few times since I've been here haha.

Also be prepared. I'm shy too, but once you get into couponing, you just change With the pantene deal one of the cashiers said I couldn't use the $3/2 coupon on top of the B1G1 coupons. So I told her how i had previously done the transaction and explained that I did buy two technically, and she pushed it through (actually I think it scanned, I had more of a problem with them having to type the b1g1 in)

Keep in mind that your pantene purchases can be used for the P&G rebates going on right now. There is a thread about at least three mail in rebate offers. If you can't find the thread just google P&G rebate. You might be able to send in and get the rebates and get your pantene even cheaper. I hope you kept your receipts.
Just keep on trying. I find Rite Aid to be very friendly. Good Luck
