So I did my RA run earlier this week. I bought 2 Colgate, 1 Tylenol Precise and 1 blowpop (filler). I had 2 Colgate Q's, $5/1 Tylenol Q and 3 $2 UPs. So the cashier tells me (very nicely, she was very sweet) that she has to ring up everything except for the $5 Q. I have to pay $5 towards the Tylenol, then she has to scan the Q, then she will give me $5 cash back??!! She stated this is how the Q has to be rung up. Makes no sense whatsoever since what if that was my only item? I would pay $5 then there would only be a .99 balance. Not sure how the Q could scan with the low balance. Well, needless to say it would have screwed up my whole plan with the UPs and everything and I said as much. Thank God there was a manager standing in front. She didn't dispute the process , but she didn't make me pay for the Tylenol up front. She entered that I paid $5 cash then scanned the Q and the $5 came off the total and all was right with the world again. Obviously my RA must be the only ***-backwards one with this Q since I didn't see anyone else mention this issue.

And I just learned that you can't say the word ***!

You're not the only one, except I think your store did it kinda funny.

It beeps and comes up on their screen as "blah blah manufacturer's specific policy for this coupon yadda yadda must be done after the sale." I forget everything it said.

I was shocked, my cashiers are already busy and now they have to waste time to do post coupons. Not to mention I had to pay the extra $5 then get it back in cash.

I had it happen at two different stores with the precise coupon and also a Sally Hansen coupon I got from All You.

Not a great idea, IMHO.

I dont have the Tylenol coupon but I am guessing it is the new type of bar code. I had a similar experience at one RA with the $1 Carefree coupons when the new bar code was very new-ish. For whatever reason that store just wanted to enter the coupon in as a post coupon. Because i was trown off track I actually paid with Ups (including the $ I was to receive back for the post coupon) and then got $$ back. After the fact I realized that I should not have done it that way. It was odd and only that one time. I am guessing it was the first time that store/ manager had encountered the new bar code and wanted the transaction separated out so he could research it easier? I know the new bar codes have been around awhile now but perhaps because of the higher value, they wanted to coupon seperated out for the same reason. Just a guess though?!

I agree that it is a silly process and waste of time. I came across it with the sally hansen Q. The item I got free was only $3-something, but when they rang up the post coupon they gave me the max in cash ($5.50). I didn't complain, as it just went right back to the store towards my other transactions. Not sure the purpose it serves to handle the coupons as a post transaction. I, too, use my Ups to pay for things, so it seems, in a sense, like trading Ups for cash.

The same thing happened to me today. I thought it was very strange and I doubted it because the cashier was new but the manager came over and said it was how it had to be done. This is part of the reason I stopped shopping at Rite Aid. There is always an issue with their coupons.
