Yesterday my SO and I went grocery shopping and we decided to stop into Rite Aid #1. I had five of the B1G1 Reese's coupons and since they were also B1G1, I ended up paying about fifty cents. I asked the cashier, "Do you like these?" and he said, "Uh ... yeah," so I gave him two and wished him a happy early Halloween.

Today, SO is about to go buy groceries and I ask if he could stop by Rite Aid #2 to pick up a few Herbal Essences - he actually uses Drama Clean shampoo/conditioner and Tousle Me Softly spray gel (funny, because he's a really big guy and you wouldn't expect him to use HE products ) - so we'd be able to stockpile it for him and get the P&G rebate. I hand him the $1 off and free styler coupons and off he goes.

He returns a half hour later with two shampoos and two stylers. He said that he was able to check out easily and that the cashier was really nice. There was a couple in line behind him who had an entire cart full of HE products as well - figured they were going for the same deal. He says that he goes out to the car to put his bag in and comes back to buy some more, but he notices a group of HE bottles sitting on the counter. When he tries to purchase more HE, a manager comes out, rolls her eyes and says, "I'm not allowing this." He asks why, the manager then says "It's a new policy - we're not accepting both the $1 and the styler coupons. You can either use the $1 coupon on one product, or buy one at full price and get the styler free with the coupon." He argued with her about it, but she wouldn't budge and she even said that the cashier would be written up for letting him use the coupons! The people who were behind him in line clearly weren't able to buy the HE either, that's why it was left on the counter, so he just left.

When he came home and told me that, I was really mad. It's amazing how managers will come out and make up their own policies because they don't like couponers. We decided to go back to Rite Aid #1 - it's much smaller but I've never had a bad experience there. I loaded up the cart with six shampoos/conditioners and six stylers. I also found they restocked the Air Wick iMotion, on sale for $6.99 (I had $6 coupons that expire today), so I grabbed seven of those, as well as a Poligrip (get one free coupon and a $1.99 SCR.)

The cashier was the same one I had given the Reese's yesterday, so he was super nice. I had separated my orders into two transactions so I could use two $5/$20 Video Values coupons. The first transaction was $7.63 including tax OOP, and the second was $1.85. He also took ALL MY COUPONS! The computer only beeped so he could enter in the price of the stylers ($2.50), and when I handed over my $1 coupons the computer accepted it without question.

So in the end, I was able to get 16 shampoos/conditioners/stylers and 7 Air Wicks for $12.98 OOP (original cost was about $90). I'll be able to get the $20 Gift of Savings for spending $100 (along with other receipts I held onto), $10 gift card for the P&G, and $1.99 for the Poligrip for a profit of $19.01!

As a note, I gave him the $5/$20 coupon first, then styler coupons, then the $1 coupons, so the free styler coupon attaches to it and the $1 attaches to the shampoo or conditioner. I'm not sure if it made a difference, but it worked for me.

I almost want to go back to the other Rite Aid with all my goodies in hand and tell that manager to stuff it.

I think you should call RiteAid and complain about that other manager. That's not fair that they're going to write up that cashier. I'm also calling them about an issue I had with the RA $2.00 coupon for Scott products. It specificially said on the coupon for last month that it was $2,00 off the 4 or 6 roll toilet paper long lasting or whatever it was and did not say it was 4 or 6 roll 1000 sheet or extra soft. I tried to use two of those coupons for the 1000 sheet and extra soft last week and the cashier at the RA where I went absolutely refused to take them. So I went to another RA and the manager rang me up and used those coupons with no problem. I told her that I'd had an issue using them at another store and she said why on earth would someone make a big deal over a $2.00 coupon that's not all that specific. I guess it just depends on the manager.....
most I've found are pretty nice, some take their authority too far.

Good for you. I would have gone over to the other store and tell him. Then call RA CS and tell them how helpfull the Manager and clerks at store#1 Then tell them that store#2 neededs a new manager!!

Definitely call to praise the good cashier and complain about the bad one. And now you know which Rite Aid to go to!!!
