I just replaced the draft copy in the first post with the final policy, so you might want to print it out and ask her if she's reading the same thing you are. That's if you decide to ever go back there.
Thank you for all that you've done. I really appreciate it!

I'm glad that there's something that we can bring in when we have trouble using coupons.

Thanks for posting the final copy, IAmFrugal.

I went to a new RA last night- I have about 6 in my area- and they were awesome with the Qs. I always get scared because so many people have problems. I had a 5/25 but I didn't have at the top of the pile- the cashier told me I should hand it over first so I get it, even my Qs take the total below 25. ( my total was still more, so it didn't matter) and I know some cashiers have different opinions on this, so that was awesome. Apparently, this cashier was trained properly! I also had a B1G1 for Olay lotion. The Q stated "Hand & Body Lotion" but every single bottle in the store stated "body lotion". The cashier even went back and checked all the bottles on the shelf, while another cashier looked at my items and the Q to make sure. They were very friendly through the whole thing. I kept apologizing- I didn't know the Q would just work! Usually they do. And there is apparently no such thing as hand and body lotion. finally they decide to push it through. the manager had come up at this point ( i had a line of 4 people behind me) and he had to push the Q through, but he just smiled. They were all very nice and I was so pleased. (even better was the deal I got!) Loving Rite Aid!!!

We all know their registers automatically take off the amount of the coupon as long as we buy the correct product. I think officially if they adjust coupons down, that is fraud, since they will get the entire coupon value from the manufacturer.
So in your example, you will get .50 overage. I wouldn't point that out to any cashier though, or they might try to adjust the value anyway.
I see what they are trying to fix. Its quite annoying when something is just a bit under the price of the coupon and they can't accept the coupon so the coupon can't be used. i.e. .99 Wheat thins - 1.00 coupon wouldn't work for me. I hope they can start just giving us the overage like Walmart does.

who was RIGHT OR WRONG....

Act ll Popcorn Balls are 3 for .99.
I had a coupon for $1.00 off 2 and the cashier said that b/c the question was for $1.00 off 2 she wanted to take off .66 and me pay .33 for one and I said no b/c I could get 3 for .99.
So I told her she could adjust down to .99 for all 3.
She said the coupon was for 2 not 3 does this matter that I got 3 for .99?
Or should I only get the 2 for the $1.00 q? marked down to .66? "casher"

You should have gotten 2 for free with her adjusting down the coupon. YOu don't have to buy a 3rd one.

Thank you for answering this so quickly for me. I am confused......
The coupon vaule is for $1.00 so by them being on sale for .99 for all 3 why is it not ok to take the coupon on all three and adjust it to .99?.

When I read this on Sale Items in the event that the item is on sale for
less than the value of the coupon, we accept the coupon for the retail price of the item. No cash back is given on coupons.

Wouldn't that cover the 3rd one also?

I admit that I'm new to couponing and I appreciate all the help.

Should I return the 3rd one b/c if I am wrong I don't want any hard feeling over a popcorn ball that will short her or get her into trouble b/c this was not my intention. Now I feel bad b/c I really thought they would get the $1.oo for all 3.TIA

I answered according to their policy.
In reality, if you had a cashier that didn't read the coupon, and just scanned, it would have taken the $1 off whether you bought 2 or 3. Their registers aren't programmed to eliminate overage, it's only the cashiers who do that. They are getting paid the face value of all coupons, so there have been discussions that it is fraud for any company to adjust the value down, that's why some stores refuse to accept coupons for even a penny more than an item costs. Rite Aid WILL get the dollar for the coupon, because the manufacturer has no way of knowing what the sale price is, or how many you bought.
If you have time and are curious, there's an interesting article that explains coupon processing. The Sharp Scissors Lady: Coupon After Life...

My RA reads everything on a coupon and for some reason the MFQ beep and she said that the register showed no item found and we both knew they were the correct items.
Thank You I am interested in this article but when I try to open it it shows page is no longer exist. I will google it tho...
I wouldn't want to be shorted or I wouldn't want to short anyone else either.

happiness has posted more than 25 good deals
I did 3 identical transactions today at a Rite Aid I don't usually shop at.
1 huggies jumbo 9.99
1 vaseline sheer infusion lotion 4.99
2 David BaBaii shampoo/conditioner 9.99 bogo
total 24.97
coupons 1 - 2.00 manu IP huggies
1 - 2.00 huggies RA video coupon
1 - 1.50 Sheer infusion IP
1 - 5.00 on 2 RA e-mail coupon for any David Babaii product
1 - 5 off 20 purchase RA video coupon
total after coupons = $9.47 plus tax
less rebates huggies 3.00 (& qualifies as 1 of the buy 5 get 1 free)
sheer infusion lotion 4.00
David Babaii 2.00
So .47 plus tax times 3 transactions = $1.41 (plus tax)

The first transaction, the shift supervisor that checked me out said she couldn't use the 5 off 20 because my total would go below 20.00. I showed he the new coupon policy. She said that is not what she's been told. But she picked up the phone and called her boss and explained my coupons to him. He told her "yes, take the 5 off 20 first"
2nd transaction was uneventful.
3rd transaction (remember all 3 transactions were identical) She rang everything up plus all coupons except the 2 huggies ones. She handed them back to me and told me I could only use one of them because they were for the same product. I told her the policy states that 1 manu/IP & one RA coupon can be used on the same item.
She said "NO it can't" I asked why she had done it on the 2 previous orders and that if she would call her boss again that he would tell her it is the policy.
As she dialed the phone - she was mumbling that she shouldn't of - that she must of done it mistakenly. When she got off the phone with him - she rung up both huggies coupons!
I hope her boss gets her a copy of the RA coupon policy soon.
Bonus: on the way out of the store, I found a reciept on the ground that had 2 RA double roll 6pk TP - that qualifies for rebate #57 for $1.00 !!!

On another note, I must say that RA must have been taken over by aliens...I have used multiple VV Q's, combined with Manu Q's and $5/$20 q's, and have not been denied ONCE at either of my 2 local RA's. The cashiers have slowly gone through each coupon, which is FINE! But NO arguments.

I think I'm going to have to email RA and say THANK YOU - it's SOOO much easier to shop there now!!!

What's wrong with Target's policy? I thought they have it online now. I haven't had problems since I"ve started carrying a copy with me that someone sent me in an email about a year ago. The only problem I find is new employees who haven't been told it is OK to adjust coupon value down, but when they call a manager over, they are shown how without arguing with me if it's allowed or not.
The rules of RRs at WAgs are so difficult, that even writing them out probably isn't going to help the employees. I wish they would just get rid of RRs if the manufacturers aren't going to let them have longer expiration dates or let us use them with other coupons.

I've still got major issues at my two closest R-As. I value and appreciate my top, best R-A that's on my way to work - but I work 90 minutes away, and since I'm off on Sundays, I *never* get to go in early for the new sales, because the two closest R-As are still not worth the hassle, even with the new policy.

Store #1: I called 800-RA last week and complained after the young female cashier looked at the two L'Oreal newspaper insert Qs I handed her (for two items) and said "Uh, we like, have this new coupon policy? And I have to read everything really carefully? And this coupon says one per purchase? So I can only take one."

It was like talking to someone from Mars. No comprehension AT ALL that "purchase" and "transaction" have different meanings. We didn't even get to the BOGO sale going on for the L'Oreal -- or the R-A qs that I was about to hand her for the L'Oreals. Her head would have exploded.

Store 2: My cashier is always an old lady - German, I think, judging from her accent - who makes it her mission to declare proudly that she has no use for this new-fangled computer technology she's heard so much about, and it's all a fraud designed to deprive poor R-A of its hard-earned money. She glares at my suspiciously when I hand her IPs. She will NOT scan one without calling over a manager. And the manager is no better - if the $5/20 doesn't scan, she refuses to enter it manually, and once that has happened, my transactions end at that point and I just give up and walk out.

In both cases, the people I'm dealing with move their lips when they read. I don't have the time or the inclination to actually bring in the policy and try to educate them. It's not in my freaking job description.

Sigh.

Today I tried to use a $2.00 coupon on a $1.99 item. The store refused to accept the coupon because "of Rite Aid's new coupon policy". I left the store without the item.

I called the corporate 1-800 number. The CSR told me that the store was correct: Rite Aid cannot accept coupons than exceed the price. I asked if they could adjust the coupon down to the price. The CSR said no.

Now I come to this forum and read about stores adjusting the coupons and this line in the .PDF:

In the event that any item’s selling price is less than the value of the coupon, Rite Aid will only accept the coupon in exchange for the selling price of the item.

Now I'm extremely confused. Did I just get screwed over or not?

I think you need to call again and quote that line, and ask the rep to check with a supervisor if they don't understand it. To me it means they will adjust the value of your $2 coupon to $1.99. What else would it mean? It does say "RA will accept...", not "will NOT accept". The reps really need to learn comprehension of the written word and stop giving people wrong info.

OMG I wonder if you talk to the same one at Corp. that I did last week I was told that I could not use the FREE Vitamin RA q and get 2 on a BOGO

I had a little problem at my Rite Aid today.

You know how you get those Rite Aid coupons from video rewards and all. Well, for some reason my Rite Aid would not allow me to use a Rite Aid ad coupon with a manufacturer's coupon just because the ad coupon said manufacturer's coupon on it. I was thinking - then why did you put it in your ad then if you're not going to allow people to combine it with a regular coupon? Also, my ligit kashi 1.50 off one cereal coupon would not go through because they blocked it at the registers for some reason. There was nothing wrong with the coupon.

So does this mean I am not allowed to combine video reward coupons, booklet coupons and ad coupons even though they have a Rite Aid symbol on them with my manufacturer's coupons anymore? I'm going to contact corporate and find out what is going on.

Call corporate and give them the store location and have them call and explain the difference in coupons to the employees. If they don't do that, you will keep having problems with the RA ones that say "manufacturers" on them. They need to learn that no matter what the words on the coupon say, it's the barcode that matters. If it starts with a "5", it's a real manufacturer's one that can be used anywhere. If it starts with RC or RA, it cannot be used anywhere but at RA, so CAN be combined with a MFC. The RA ones have a long barcode that is flatter too. No one could mistake them for each other, they are so different shaped.
