Rite-Aid SCR Over-lap for June/July

Just a quick heads-up that the overlap period for RiteAid single-check rebates will take place this coming Friday and Saturday (6/30 and 7/1). As a reminder, the overlap period represents the last two days that the June rebates are in effect, and the first two days that the July rebates are in effect. (Meaning that on those two days, if you buy something that has a rebate for June and a rebate for July, you would qualify for both.)

I believe there will be some decent overlapping items this time, but take that with a grain of salt as I have not yet seen the July rebate book.

On Friday, I'll post an analysis of some of the overlapping deals. So in case anyone is interested, be sure to check back.

WOW!GreatBearMagnus has posted more than 500 great deals! WOW!GreatBearMagnus has posted more than 500 great deals! WOW!GreatBearMagnus has posted more than 500 great deals! WOW!
NOTE: This post is for background only, and will be used to later discuss the opportunities for overlap between the June and July rebates.

There are a couple of important deals in the June rebate book.
  • The first is the Skin Care Rebate (#500), which runs for both June and July. This works as follows: Receive $5.00 rebate when you buy any 2 qualifying skin care products (and there is a somewhat-lengthy and very-specific list of things included). This is a very cool rebate. The coolest thing about this rebate is that it is unlimited, meaning you could buy 20 qualifying products, and your rebate would be $50.00. The other coolest thing about this rebate is that there is a fair number of products that overlap between this rebate and other rebates. (And yes, this rebate is so awesome that it can have two coolest things about it!)
  • The second is the Procter&Gamble rebate (#62). It is a tiered rebate, meaning the more you purchase of P&G products, the greater your rebate is. And the payoff is a Gas Cash card, rather than the usual RiteAid Single Check Rebate check. The tiers are as follows: If you buy $20.00 of P&G, you get a $5.00 gas card. If you buy $40.00 of P&G, you get a $12.00 gas card. If you buy $75.00 or more P&G, you get a $30.00 gas card. And you can't get more than a $30.00 gas card. (Note: My experience so far is that items are valued at prices before coupons, with no exceptions.)
  • The third is a combination of the Coppertone rebate (#71) and the Kodak/Coppertone rebate (#5). The #71 rebate is for $5.00 when you buy a Coppertone continuous spray product. And the #5 rebate is for $10.00 when you buy both "any variety coppertone sun protection" and either a specific Kodak one-time-use camera or a specific Kodak 4-pack of film. Those are some pretty big rebate values, and present some profit opportunity for the savvy shopper. Oh, and did I mention that you could qualify for FOUR of each of these rebates? FOUR!
  • The fourth important rebate is on Duracell coppertop alkaline battery packs. It's another tiered rebate, where if you purchase $10.00 Duracell, you get a $3.00 rebate. If you purchase $15.00 Duracell, you get a $5.00 rebate. And if you purchase $20.00 Duracell, you get an $8.00 rebate. (Again, it has been my experience so far is that items are valued at prices before coupons, with no exceptions.)
These do NOT need to be done in the same transaction, so you can part-and-parcel your purchases out if you need to.

Now as you may have guessed by now, there's tons of overlap between these rebates. The Duracell that you buy also counts as a P&G purchase. The Coppertone continuous spray also counts as a qualifying purchase for the Skin Care rebate. A lot of the Olay products that count for the P&G purchases also count as qualifying purchases for the skin rebate. See what I mean about overlap?

I have showed you the math on some of these rebates in other threads, and will do so again taking into consideration the July rebates as well, when that rebate book is released.

A couple things jump out at me right away:

1) If you haven't purchased any Duracell Coppertop, now is your chance. If you purchase $20.00 of them, you will qualify for the $8.00 rebate for June, plus the $8.00 rebate for July, plus those purchases will count towards P&G spending. With coupons, this will very easily pay for itself. And if you HAVE already purchased Coppertones for June, you can still consider purchasing them again for July for this overlap period. 4 @ $11.00/2 = $22.00, minus 4 $1.00/1 coupons equals $18.00 out-of-pocket. You will qualify for the July Coppertone rebate of $8.00, plus this will contribut $22.00 towards your P&G spending (so if you had $20.00 in P&G already from the prior Duracell purchase, this will put you above the $40.00 tier, and add $7.00 to your gas card). So that's $18.00 OOP for $15.00 in rebates, and you can keep the batteries!

2) If you haven't done all your Coppertone/Kodak purchases yet, now is the time. (I have already run thru the math on this one on another thread.) But alas, they have made that deal even sweeter by adding a $3.00 rebate for the film for July (limit 2) and a separate $3.00 rebate for the camera for July (again limit 2). This thing is now an amazing moneymaker, and I am sort of sitting here scratching my head, figuring out what they were thinking when they put it together.

3) If you haven't already used your MIR for the Venus Vibrance razor, now is an excellent time to do so. You can use the $4.00/1 coupon that expires 6/30/06, you will qualify for the $2.00 June rebate, you will qualify for the $2.00 July rebate, plus that will count towards P&G spending. An excellent double- or triple-dip! And if you already have used your MIR, maybe you have some crazy aunt or something that you can ask to have the MIR check sent to. After all, this razor will only cost you $1.99 after the coupon and RiteAid rebates (and even that's assuming there is no incremental P&G money coming), so what's the worst that can happen if your crazy aunt decides to keep the money or something?

4) The Olay Vitamins overlap, and they're on sale this week. There were coupons in previous inserts, there is a June rebate and a July rebate, plus they count towards P&G spending. I am not buying those, so I haven't really sussed out all the details, but if you are interested, you can look into it.

5) The Lysol wipes overlap is interesting. It's limit one, but there's a June $1.00 rebate, a July $2.00 rebate, and we got $2.00/2 coupons in a recent insert. So you will end up with nearly-free Lysol wipes. [SUBSEQUENT EDIT: The Wipes are $3.50 at my store, and the rebates total $3.00 and coupon $2.00 does not equal "nearly-free wipes" as I asserted. Try this instead: One Wipes, One 32Oz all-purpose cleaner. Retail is $3.50 each ($7.00 total), minus $2.00 coupon, and you get June wipes rebate $1.00, July wipes rebate $2.00, and July all-purpose cleaner rebate $2.00. That gets you to "nearly-free". Sorry for the earlier error, but it's unconscionable that these things retail at $3.50 each ... I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it!]

6) I would be reluctant to try the Revlon Custom Effects overlap. It is not clear when the FAR rebate for July kicks in, and I personally have had bad luck with these types of things in the past. Wait a couple days and get it free, and if you use the coupon, it's a profit.

Yes, lots of couldda-wouldda-shouldda with June, they just keep making it better and better. Even though I was thrilled to get 7 packs of Duracell batteries for free a few weeks ago (discussed in separate thread), now I'm sorta bummed as I could have purchased 4 and made big profits had I waited until now.
4 Coppertop Batteries: $22.00
2 Store Coupons $2/2: 4.00
4 Manuf Coupons $1/1: 4.00 (totally a YMMV thing to use both store and manuf)
Total OOP: $18.00 or $14.00 if you're lucky

Rebates qualified: $8.00 June Coppertop
$8.00 July Coppertop
$5.00 P&G gas card
Total Rebates: $21.00

Profit of either $3.00 or $7.00. And they even let you keep the batteries!! (laughing)

When does the overlap end? My parents are here and I can go hit them tomorrow if it's still good (Sat. 7/1) - is it by weekly ad? Help, help GBM, you can be my boy toy (though I admit I look nothing like Halle Berry....)LOL
