How do you read the ads?
When rite aid has their ads that say 5/$5, do you have to buy all 5 to get that price? Or can I read that as a dollar each even if I buy one?

I read that the same way you do. The only exception would be if there's an UP reward on the purchase of 5. Then you must buy 5 to get the reward.
