Cookie Dough Recall


Southfield (WWJ) -- Nestle USA says its baking unit has voluntarily recalled Toll House refrigerated cookie dough products after a number or illnesses were reported by those who ate the dough raw.

The company said the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control are investigating reported E. coli illnesses that might be related to the ingestion of raw cookie dough.

The company says consumers should not eat raw cookie dough and that such a warning is featured on its packaging.

Consumers who have purchased these products should not consume them. Instead, we are asking that consumers return these products to their local grocer for a full refund.

The recall includes refrigerated cookie bar dough, cookie dough tub, cookie dough tubes, limited edition cookie dough items, seasonal cookie dough and Ultimates cookie bar dough. It does not affect any other Toll House products.

The products involved in the voluntary recall include all varieties of Nestle TOLL HOUSE refrigerated Cookie Bar Dough, Cookie Dough Tub; Cookie Dough Tube; Limited Edition Cookie Dough items; Seasonal Cookie Dough and Ultimates Cookie Bar Dough. Variety information is included in the list below.

I telephoned Nestles then Publix HQ.
I just returned 3 packages to Publix. No receipt was requested. They reimbursed me for the full price.

wow, i bought 4 last week from publix, glad I hadn't used any, so I can return them, correct?

Nestle has recalled all of their refrigerated cookie dough due to an e-coli risk. If you bought them when they were super cheap a few weeks back and you still have some left, you can return them to the store for a full refund.

I almost baked some these today. Yuck.

I was just reading this on the news this morning.

The UPC list also includes Easter cookies. I bought some of those on clearance at Meijer just after Easter this year and they've been in the freezer.

Bring 'em back to the store!

OMG! I have 2 packages in the freezer of recall cc cookies-we have eaten 3 packs of 0 50000 62242 9 mini Chocolate Chip bar 16.5oz and 3 Chocolate Chip tube 16.5oz 0 50000 62239 9 this month & last month yuck!
I ate 2 and let emma eat one raw on Monday!!

It looks like the break & bake variety is considered the dough bars, which are the first ones listed. Did you check the UPC's against the list? I think all of mine were Ultimates, some of which I ate raw. Thankfully I didn't get sick. I'll think twice about eating them raw next time!

NEW YORK – Nestle USA on Friday voluntarily recalled its Toll House refrigerated cookie dough products after a number of illnesses were reported by those who ate the dough raw.
The company said the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control are investigating reported E. coli illnesses that might be related eating the dough.
In a statement, the FDA said there have been 66 reports of illness across 28 states since March. About 25 people have been hospitalized, but no one has died.
The FDA advised consumers to throw away any prepackaged, refrigerated Nestle Toll House cookie dough products in their homes. Retailers, restauranteurs and employees at other food-service operations should also not sell or serve any of the products.
Nestle spokeswoman Roz O'Hearn said "this has been a very quickly moving situation," adding the company took action less than 24 hours after hearing of the problem.
O'Hearn said the company will "cooperate fully" with the FDA's investigation.
The recall includes refrigerated cookie bar dough, cookie dough tub, cookie dough tubes, limited edition cookie dough items, seasonal cookie dough and Ultimates cookie bar dough. It extends to chocolate chip dough and other varieties, including gingerbread, sugar and peanut butter cookie dough. It does not affect any other Toll House products, including ice cream that contains Toll House raw cookie dough.
The FDA also said consumers should not try to cook the dough, even though eating cooked dough would be safe, because consumers might get bacteria on their hands and on counters and other cooking surfaces.
E. coli is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration and, in the most severe cases, kidney failure.

It was a fluke that I noticed this on-line. My Dh loves their cookies.
I have been waiting to bake cookies for about 2 weeks hoping it would cool down.
I am so glad that I waited.

Whew...I was supposed to bake a bunch for Boy Scout camp. My son and some of his friends are at camp as staff for the summer. I hadn't got to them yet. Was going to bake tomorrow. I have 6 packages to take back. I don't think the counselors would have appreciated me possibly getting a lot of staff members sick.
