Well I was SHOCKED when I opened The Package and The Small Holes Had Transferred The Aluminum To Our Turkey and Our Ham! Little Spots Of the Aluminum Foil was In the meat now! I have NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE! Has Anyone else ever Witnessed This? Im contacting The company AND taking Pictures of It. It just Seems Rather odd to Me.

If you can post the picture that would be great.. are you saying it's as if someone stuck it with a fork at the particles landed on the turkey? because that is what it sounded like?

I have never heard of such a thing! I need to be more careful and let my leftovers cool before wrapping them. I hope you get a response from the company!

foil goes in the oven and can stay the whole time something is cooking without this happening...this is not because of the temp of leftovers!

- Do not use aluminium foil on dishes fabricated from silver, nickel silver or stainless steel. They eat holes into the foil as a consequence of electrochemical corrosion, and the aluminium is transferred onto the food. For the same reason, foil should not be in contact with salty or acidic foods.

I have seen this before too and wondered what causes it, so I googled What makes aluminum foil pit or disintegrate? Sometimes when foods are stored in aluminum foil, or when foil is used to cover a pan of food, the foil will develop holes and look like it is being eaten away. Two things may be the cause. 1) When aluminum and a dissimilar metal are in contact in the presence of moisture, an electrolytic reaction may occur causing a breakdown of the aluminum. To prevent this reaction, use plastic wrap to cover metal containers (silver, stainless steel, or iron used to store food. 2) If the aluminum foil was not used with a dissimilar metal container, the reaction was probably a chemical one. It is possible for heavy concentrations of salt, vinegar or some other acidic compound, or highly spiced foods to cause the foil to disintegrate. The product of either of these reactions is an aluminum salt. It does not harm the food but you will want to scrape any deposit off the food as it may impart an undesired flavor and color. PREPARED BY: Angela M. Fraser, Ph.D., Associate Professor/Food Safety Specialist, and Carolyn J. Lackey, Ph.D., R.D., L.D.N., Professor/Food and Nutrition Specialist, North Carolina State University (August 2004) So sounds like it could be caused by using metal pan or bowls, salt or tomato sauce, etc.. |

Maybe it is the salt in the ham and if your turkey was brined, that may be it. That's the first thing I thought of when I read your post and saw the photos.
