I hate my vacuum. It seems to only pick up whatever is right on the surface of the carpet. DH told me I can get whatever I want so I need your recommendations. I really would love one that sucks dirt from deep down in the carpet. I have a cat so fur is a bit of an issue, but not the most important consideration. I don't need a carpet cleaner-- I already have one that works pretty well. TIA for your help.

I personally think you get what you pay for. So, with that said I have the Dyson Ball! I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I can go from carpet to tile to rugs with NO PROBLEM! Usually you can get an incentive(sp) if you get it at Target. When I bought mine you got the handheld vaccum. HTH.

I recommend the Dyson, check on the Dyson14 animal since you have a cat. It is user friendly and you can always find them on sale at amazon or sign up at woot so you get an alert when they go on sale with $5 flat rate shipping. I got my Dyson07 $120, shipped from amazon after a few amazon codes. For maintenance, I use the iRobot (from woot) several times a day.

We have a Dyson & I love it. DH had to talk me into it & we got it at BBB with the 20% off & a $100 GC with the purchase so I went with it. We vacuumed when we got home with our old one & then turned on the Dyson. OMG! The canister was full of dirt. I love it. They have an animal one that I've heard is great also. |

My vote is for Kirby - it's the best vacuum I've ever used!

Out of all the vaccums I have ever used I really like the dyson. They are really expensive for a vaccum but are so worth it especially for hardwood/tile floors.

Now I feel bad. I have the Dyson Animal and I hate it. I'm always having trouble with the hose pinching my fingers. I also have trouble with it actually removing pet hair. I find myself ggoing over the same area for several minutes at a time. My biggest complaint is that its so hard to clean. I know that sounds crazy, but I feel like the vac should be clean to do a good job.

I have the pet hair eraser and have no issues at all with it! It's not quite a dyson in performance from what I can tell, but it's also less than half the price!

I was at Kohl's with a 30% off coupon debating between the dyson and the bissell "lift off". I bought the bissell. It ended up being a little over $100. I LOVE it! I love that I don't need to have a separate canister vac for going up stairs. I love that the hose is semi transparent so if I ever get a clog, I can see where it's at and take care of it. It pulls up dirt like you wouldn't believe!!! I never knew my house was THAT dirty! I am still VERY impressed with it! I can't believe how well it cleans for 1/4 the price of the Dyson. Oh...and I have 2 dogs and 2 birds....so it handles the pet hair (and feathers) very well.

i have the Eureka smartboss vac...read reviews, and it was comparable to Dyson, but the folks on my review hated the dyson (?? not sure why tho) - this Eureka was 150 with shipping on Amazon...and it came in 3 days (even with slow shipping)...it is HEPA filter, and it is awesommmmeeee!!! WOW I LOVE it! It has so much suction I accidentally vacumed my DD's hat (beanie by mistake, it was black, matched the rug) and it made a zillion holes in it. (i didnt care, it was 2.00 anyways) Point being, it has tons of suction, best thing I have ever purchased. Supposed to be good for those with pets too.

I bought the Eureka smartboss 3 years ago and I love it. I like the fact it has a bag, I don't like the bagless vacuums. I also ordered a 15 ft extension hose for vacuuming the top of bookcases and for stairs. Only thing I don't like is the suction is so strong, I have trouble vacuuming area rugs with it, wants to suck them up even on the highest setting. I got mine at Walmart for $130.00. I order all the bags and filters online and pay about half what I would pay at Walmart. Overall, I think it was a great deal.

I love my dyson. I have the slim version and it is really easy and light to take around the house. It picks up cat hair really well. The slim version goes under furn. and beds alot easier than the large version. I also like it that I can order replacement parts if anything were to break. I picked mine up new for half off at a Target last year. I also have the smaller hand held version, and I love that too. The only drawback on the small version is the battery life. The good part is that it never looses suction, and I have the powered brush. My other vacumm is a Kenmore canister. It is over 10 years old and keeps on going. It has been a great trooper. If you have 1,200, I would try the Kirby. My mom bought one when I was in Jr. High 20 years or so (haha) ago, and it still runs really well. It is a tank of a vacuum. |

Seriously - a Kirby. I had two dysons - the DC07 and the ball (DC15) - I had heard from a friend of mine how awesome her Kirby was - and I wanted to see... so I borrowed hers... vacuumed like MAD with my dyson - then put an empty bag on hers... and you would NOT BELIEVE the sand that HER KIRBY pulled out after I spent a good solid 30 minutes vacuuming my livingroom with my "wonderful dyson". This wasn't some high pressured salesman showing me WHY I needed to buy a Kirby from him - it was something easily seen by myself. Dysons look nice - and probably do a better job than most other store bought vacuums - but the ONLY reason I vacuumed was to get the dirt out - which wasn't happening. So... needless to say - I bought a Kirby. My carpet looks MUCH MUCH newer after only having it for a month - and I got a free shampooer with it - AND it has a lifetime warranty. Not too shabby!! |

I have a Dyson Slim and I dislike it. I like the fact that it's so easy to maneuver and the customer service is great but I've had to get it fixed twice. And because there weren't any authorized Dyson repair shops here, I had to have it shipped to NY.
