Fyi Why Some IP Q's Do Not Scan! Helpful Info Within~

Q.~My coupons wouldn't scan at the store.


A.~Your printer must be able to produce at a resolution of 300-dpi in order for the coupons to be legible enough for scanning.

Make sure you have PLENTY of ink in your printer also...andything that does not print clearly will not scan properly.

Printer Why won't coupons print on my computer? (SMARTSOURCE)~E-mail THEM PLZ!!!

I hope this post works for clicking on the link in it..all of us that are having ISSUES with NOT being able to print off their website due to the qpon printer not being able to install! We ALL should flood their mailbox about how unhappy we are about the software they are using and that they should change it so it IS available to us online!
Wha'da say! I am gonna write for sure! I spent all day trying to TWEAK my puter just to get it to print! Grrrrrr And still nothing.

I know Monica has written them also to look at our forum and thread on the disatisfaction of this issue (thank you Monica! ) But i am thinking with more individual complaints that it might help put a fire under their butts!


Will someone try my link to write the letter and post if it works or not..it will work on mine of course. I will fix it if it does not work! Thanks AFCer's!

You need to install the coupon printer to print coupons. If your installation is not working, send an email to the appropriate printable coupon link to ask for technical support.

I heard back from the folks at SmartSource - looks like they have some things in the works that will hopefully help some of you. Here is what they had to say... they've been very nice in looking into this for us, I do hope you'll be kind to them if you write.

Unfortunately, some people have trouble with ANY ActiveX controls (not just ours). If they are in a corporate environment there usually is nothing that they can do - their machines have been setup to just not allow it to happen.

In a home environment it is different. The usual culprit is some type of firewall, anti-virus etc. that causes the problem. In those cases it’s a matter of turning everything off, which often is harder than it sounds - they think it is disabled but it is not.

That leaves a small number of people who just can’t install it. We have tried many times to figure it out to no avail.

We are building a new customer service and trouble shooting tool. I hope to have that released within just a few weeks. That should greatly aid in reducing these incidents. We also have a significant rebuild in the works of the basic security technology. That should also clear up some of these problems. Sorry we couldn’t point you to a known issue, ironically, I wish we DID have a known bug, at least then it’s an answer.

Printer SmartSource....arghhh !!


I'm with all of you.
I've e-mailed SS over 6x's. I haven't gotten a single reply. I try every once in a while to go back, cross my fingers & try to print...but no luck.
It always says my default printer isn't on.....which I know for certain it is.
It's very, very frustrating because there is alot of awesome cupons I would love to print out.
I sure hope the co. truly does something to resolve all of our issues.
I'm ready to print

couple of things to try

you need to be an admin for vista os if youre resetting your printer settings (been there done that) even when you go back in and see that its set as you wanted you will get the admin settings when you print.

hold down the control (CRTL) key (works on xp) as active x on the xp os looks at some printables as a pop-up.

smartsource will not let you print from an all - in - one printer neither will cool savings.

I had this same problem about a month ago. I had been printing with no problems what so ever and then suddenly it would not allow me. I could print from anywhere else on the net, just not Smartsource. I emailed them several times and I never to this day recieved a reply. It kept telling me that I needed to install the software, which of course was already there. Then one day I tried again and PRESTO it printed and has been printing fine ever since. I did not make any changes to my computer.
So who knows what is going on, I am just happy that I can print again. Seemed really strange that it worked fine, then didn't, then did.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it at all but for those of you using AOL's web browser perhaps try using another web browser. I could never print using aol's browser, always trying to make me install the coupon printer and never letting me print, i used Internet Explorer on my destop, and I can print fine. It worked for me, it might for some of you too. :Elmo:

I Sent Them An Email Telling Them Of My Problem And That One Of Their Technical People Had Called Me 2 Weeks Ago But Couldn't Get The Problem Solved. He Said He Was Going Back To The "shop" And Work On It Some More!!

What Brand of Printer do you have?

Also: some tweaking may need to be done in the Advanced Folder in Internet settings. For one thing, Java Script must be Enabled. Going into the advanced area is not for the faint of heart, BUT it can be done by us "everyday" people, just write down what you have checked from "Disable" to "Enable". Enable meas it will work, Disable means it will not.

I have a niece & she cannot print from SS, either.

&, it also depends on what Antivirus your pc is running.

I run with WindowsLive (can get it on sale at Office Max for $19.99, instead of $39 or $49.99)>>This program is from MS Windows, keeps Windows updated with service packs, etc. I have it installed on a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop & Inspiron Laptop, use Epson photo printers, & I do not have any problems printing.

ALSO: if you have INSTALLED the Coupon Printer, go UNINSTALL it, then REinstall it again. Here's the trick a lot of people make: once it is Downloaded, you MUST click on "Run", in order to open the File, then "Unzip" the file, then Finish Installing the program. Several ladies I know have not finished installing the printer by Running the file, then Unzipping to install it.

I don't know if this is your case or not, but it is worth a try.

No Offense Meant to anyone, I'm just trying to help:
For everyone that is having trouble printing from SS, please read my reply to winross, & also the below info.
My previous desktop pc: running WINXP w/out problem of printing SS qs. New Dell Inspiron 530 desktop last fall, at first would NOT print SS qs. Went into the Advanced internet setting, changed some "Disabled" boxes to "Enable", Completely Uninstalled the Coupon Printer (the trick here: make sure to uninstall ALL of it off your pc), then Reinstalled the Coupon Printer again. From then on, I have Not had any problems printing SS qs.

I run with: Dell Inspiron 520 desktop & Dell Inspiron Laptop, Epson Stylus Pro Photo 2200 printer & Epson Stylus R280 printer,Use the Latest Version Of Internet Explorer (IE 7.0, I believe), use WindowsLive for antivirus, as this Automatically keeps pc's updated on All major Windows updates. ALSO: for some users, not keeping Windows updated can affect coupon printing.
Same thing for antivirus programs: some programs detect the SS Coupon Installer as a Virus, & will not let the printer install or work properly.

I hope this helps someone, as those geeks in SS's Tech Department have No Clue what we are talking about, & really have no desire to help us. I know, been there, done that, numerous attempts last fall for 4 wks, was always told: we'll get back with you. Well, very few did, & when they did, they had no answer to correct the situation. That's when I resorted to tweaking my pc myself.

We really need to find a woman/man that is an everyday pc geek, that will really dig into this problem for us. He/she will know instantly what is wrong & how to correct it. THEN the problem can be taken to Smart Source & informed what needs to be corrected in order for Everyone to print.

I sincerely hopes this helps someone.

I just recently switched from a HP All in One to a Kodak AIO and I can no longer print from Smart Source. I have no problems with bricks... just the Smart Source type.

The printer acts like it is going to print something with the printer cartridge going back and forth but the paper doesn't move. Then a blank sheet of paper spits out.

I guess I'm gonna have to break down and buy more color ink for the HP that is now attached to my dh's laptop so I can print the SS q's.

Anyone else have this problem with the Kodak AIO printers?

I was having trouble printing a lot of these coupons with our hp all in one. One of the sites, I can't remember which one now, had a download for the Coupon Printer. I downloaded it, and have not had any more problems with it. Sorry I can't remember now where to find it. It might could be found with a web search or at the coupon site itself. Doris

I think alot of the problems is because of aol . I know several people with the same problem and we all have aol and none of us can print the smartsource coupons . We each have different brand printers. I am going to try the idea that was posted above. Will let you know.

I had the exact same problem but what you need to do is go to the printer preference settings and click the box that says preview before print and it will work.

I changed my printers as I found my old one that is just a printer! And it works now!! I guess it really was the all in one printer thing and that is why it wouldn't print! I am very happy now!
