Okay so I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place to post this (feel free to delete/move it) but I'm still quite new. I went to do the McCormick spices thing tonight and went to grab a box or two of brownie mixes for my daughters "Christmas Party" (I was assigned brownies) at school. So I'm standing there looking for the reduced sugar brownie mix when this little old lady comes up and starts grabbing boxes of mix left and right. I ignore her and continue on my hunt for said box of brownie mix, having already found one and placed it in my cart. As i watch this woman piling brownie and cake mix in her cart I notice that the boxes shes pulling (from behind where I got mine) have peelies on them, so I grab one box and take ONE peelie off of one, since my box had been stripped of its peelie and the q was good on the mixes I was buying. Well I ripped the peelie in half trying to get it off, so i wadded it up and went for a second one, which just so happened to be on the second box of mix she had uncovered by stocking her cart. She turned to me and went "so you just take them all off?" I said politely, no I have two boxes of mix in my cart and I ripped one. Someone must have removed the q from my box so I am just taking one off another box to use. She went NUTS. She started yelling and got other people in the aisle involved, at which point she started calling me a thief. I ignored her as I searched (in vain) for a tub of reduced sugar frosting. She continued to stand there and cause a commotion, until about 10 customers were staring at us. I finally told her that I would not argue with her over a 1$ coupon and to please leave me alone. She did not. I proceeded to the dairy isle to get cream cheese (other end of the store) and this woman FOLLOWED me the entire time. As I checked the reduced section for soy baby yogurt (50 cents for a 6pack!) she said in a low voice "are you going to steal that too thief?" It took everything I had not to turn around and throw the yogurt at her. I proceeded to get the cream cheese, where she snickered and repeated herself. This time I turned around and told her if she continued to follow me and harass me, I would call the police and press harassment charges. She retorted with "I'll get the manager and tell him that youre stealing!" I told her to go right ahead, that there is no law against anyone peeling off as many peelies as they choose, for a product they are or are not buying at the moment. She followed me up to check out, where she yelled for a manager as I checked out in the aisle next to her. She started yelling at this manager her twisted little tale, and I was just ignoring her thinking he will hear my side and tell her to calm down. Nope. He sided with her (didnt even listen to me) and not only told me to stop taking peelies (for products I'm purchasing none the less) but to give her MY peelies for HER purchase. I argued, he refused to remit. So I had the cashier void my purchase and I left..empty handed, but with a peelie. Now I want to call corporate and explain this to them, but is it worth it? Am I overreacting to a shrewd little old woman and a manager that possibly just wanted to shut her up and have her stop making a scene? I work in home health care and in hospitals/nursing facilities so I put up with A LOT of harsh treatment from seniors (I have been beaten with a walker actually) but this is beyond me. I fully intend to go back and complete my McCormick purchase..at the Price Chopper 8 miles away.. not the one two blocks from my house. I am a loyal PC shopper and most of the Cashiers and Assistant Managers know me by name (and the coupons I always come armed with!) but this REALLY makes me not want to go back. Opinions? ** I received a phone call from Price Chopper yesterday (unfortunately while I was in court) The voice mail was that of the store manager, intensely apologizing for the issue and promising to permit my coupon usage (and acquiring methods, although youd best believe ill wait to take the peelie OFF the box until im checking out) as long as it was in a legal manner and within PC's coupon redemption policy. He really didn't touch on embarrassing me in front of half the store, or the fact that my keys (i had about 20 club cards and nine keys on this keyring its MASSIVE) that still have not been found after two+ weeks at his store, or anything in the way of making amends, except for his very nervous sounding apology. I did not get a response from customer service @ PC, but obviously this guy got reamed out for this. I intend to call him back later on in the day (it is six am i doubt he is there) and speak to him personally. I might even go in if the snow lets out, I want to KNOW he will not do this again. I also want him to find my freaking keys. I don't know quite what I expected out of this, but you bet your sweet bippy if this guy so much as gives me an evil glare, I will write/call PC again and complain about his butt until something more dramatic happens. What was she the Peelie Police? ![]() It's too bad you didn't kindly ask her for her name and badge # for future reference! ![]() All joking aside!! I would definately be calling corp! I don't think you are over reacting at all! I am not sure I would of been as nice as you were. I may have blatently told her to mind her business. I certainly would of not handed over the peelies either!! I would also make sure to call THAT PC and talk with the head manager/supervisor there! Don't let it go, you will kick yourself later if you do!! Sorry you had to go thru that Layla!! I can not believe the people that do the things they do in this day and age! We really live in a sad sad world. |

OMG I can't believe the manager acted in that manner, or the others involved as well. I wouldn't have been able to hold my temper. I would deffently call corporate, do you remember the managers name that spoke to you that way. Maybe they have the incident on camera. I wouldn't wait too long before doing something. No one should be treated like you were, by the customers or management. Lynda |

She was completely out of line to "stalk" you like that but that being said, I am one of those people who is totally against folks who think it is okay to go and grab all the peelies they see. I KNOW that YOU were not doing that in this case but I'm betting she was responding to people she has seen doing so in the past and you caught her rage. I would definitely be calling corp and having this addressed. Regardless of who is right or wrong, you don't humiliate anyone in public like that. The issue should have been brought to an office and calmly discussed. Period.

Wow! That's horrible. I can't believe the manager acted that way too. I bet she was not buying all the mixes she had in her cart. She probably got mad because she wanted all the peelies for herself. I would call corporate about it. There are no rules about peelies and if you are buying the product you have a right to take it. People have way too much time on their hands.

First of all ... YUCK! what a terrible way for her to act but that the manger condoned her disgusting behavior is reprehensible. I would totally call corporate because they have just lost a customer (at least as far as they know) and they need to know how you were treated. There is no way they want someone like that representing their company. Im sorry you had such a crappy trip.

There must have been at least 50 waiting in lines at check out and we were RIGHT in the middle. Ugh! I wrote a nice letter to corporate, I will post if I get a reply. In the meantime, I will be shopping at Price Chopper Wilkes-Barre (its brand new and huge!) closer to my job.

I'm confused. She took all the brownie mixes? so there was not even one more left that you could put into your cart so you could buy the brownie mix with the peelie to get the 2nd one? I personally would have used the 1st peelie, they could have taped it. I think that lady was a nut job.... I would contact corporate about the manager. I think he was wrong. You were buying the product that the peelie was for right? I think he was in the wrong. I would have left my purchase there also. |

I initally grabbed a peelie off of a cake mix because I hadnt found the second reduced sugar brownie mix yet, which DID have the peelie. I ripped that peelie in half (off the cake mix) at which point she had grabbed enough that I was able to find my second box of reduced sugar mix, which DID have a peelie. I peeled the peelie OFF the box before placing it in my cart, which I think may have led her to the belief that I was just taking peelies. I didnt go around peeling off hundreds of peelies or anything and I did indeed intend to use my peelie... it was for my products! I didnt get to, because I walked out of the store, but still. I hope that makes more sense.. I'm having a slow day. :/

Please tell us you've corp by now? This has been bugging me since you posted it. We are now down to just PC in our town as our other store just sold out to them and I personally am getting tired of their nonsense.

I went back to the store a few days ago to try to find out the managers name (full name) who was working at the time. They would NOT help me at all. It was very obvious the workers did not want to get reamed out by their boss for "ratting" on him. I found it anyways, I have a friend who used to work there and I did indeed complain. Still waiting for a response, I guess it will take a few days with the storms coming one after another and all.
