| To pee or not to pee
TO PEE OR NOT TO PEE -- Words of wisdom from an unknown person: Like most folks in this country, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes & the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that paycheck, in my case, I am required to pass a random urine test (with which I have no problem). What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. So, here is my question: Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them? Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their BUTT----doing drugs while I work. Can you imagine how much money each state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check? I guess we could call the program "URINE OR YOU'RE OUT"! Pass this along if you agree or simply delete if you don't Hope you all will pass it along, though. Something has to change in this country - AND SOON! P.S Just a thought, all politicians should have to pass a urine test too!

On one hand I totally agree.. but then again.. most people on welfare have kids. I see the money as for the kids. The parents can be huge F*ups but as long as the kids are being fed (maybe not well), and clothed (maybe not the best clothes), and a roof over their head (even if it's dirty) it's the best they are going to get and they might have worse if they parents couldn't pass a test to be on welfare.

I agree with you to a point, because some of these parent who receive welfare don't take care of their kids. They spend the money on drugs, alcohol or whatever. And I know in California they can take the parents off but they can't deny the kids. Also California has a life time limit of 5 yrs for the parents. but i also agree with this topic because there are so many people who receive benefits and are high or drunk all the time except when they go see their social worker. |

I think that they should take urine tests BUT it they fail they are required to get help. Yeah I know this would probably not work in all cases but maybe it would save the mothers who are trapped in a bad cycle and deter the ones who just don't care. I would not mind a bit if my money was going toward a rehabilitating mother. Maybe like grant them assistance for 6 months under conditions of treatment... if they don't show then cancel their assistance and then after 6 months they have to test clean.

I think that there are genuinely people out there who need the help, both for their children AND to get off of the drugs. My husband is military, and has to pass a random "whizz quiz" all the time.

I agree with you all to a point too... my only question is that if they fail and we require them to get help... are we going to pay for that and the testing too??

I've always thought that receipts should be presented before you get the next check. So they can see where all your money went. No receipt, no money. So if you start out with $200 on month 1, present a receipt for $180.00, next month you get $180.00

I believe urine tests could be a valuable tool. You have the folks who pass...great! You have the ones who fail, but it's the kick in the butt they need to get clean, and they do get clean, great! However, what can be done about the ones who fail and could care less. Out of say 100 cases, how many would fall in the latter category? What then? Do we foster the kids? We want the accountability, but cannot go forward with it until a solution for the backlash is firmly in place. Thanks for the post!

| Sadly it is probably cheaper to let them continue using than to pump the money into rehab programs.

I think this is awesome.. It would not work 100% though.. case in point.. my mom just told me today that her friends low life son was going for his doctors appointment today.. now.. he is not sick.. nor does he Need the prescription they give him. he pays them 150$ to give him a prescription... then he sells the pills to buy drugs & whatever. He doesnt pay his mother anything even though he lives with her.. and she takes care of his son (he has 2.. 1 he never sees and one lives with him.. ) PLUS his girlfriend & HER 3 kids live there rent free... SO. Anyways. Today he went to his appointment AFTER making his 6 year old pee in a cup for him so he can pass the drug test... nice huh? And yes child services have been out there many times & NEVER do anything.. He is on Food stamps as well & Sells them.. doesnt even use them to buy food for his kid. My mom bought him (the kid) food & a shirt for the first day of school. And yup he gets like 600 bucks a month in Food stamps.. Sorry to gab.. but I think if they are that much into drugs. they will FIND a way.. But I Do think they should enforce the urine test & should do random ones as well.. and home checks.. bring a dog :-p |

This post my get mixed reviews and pple might not like my opinion, but its my own. This should have been done a long time ago...for security purposes in order to keep the children in a safe enviroment. Because if a parent is getting money to stay home to take care of their children that's what they ought to be doing. They should do it ramdonly whether the help is for the children or just themselves. If they go to apply for a job they won't get it if they don't pass the test so this welfare and other programs should be treated the same - this would probably prevent parents from "checking out" if they did the test. Everyone needs help at one point or another. I don't see anything wrong with pple getting help when they needed, but they would need to comply with "law." Great topic! Thanks!
