Maltice Puppy

My daughter just got a Maltice puppy he's 15 weeks old now...Well I'am babysitting him for a few days, and all he does is bits and go after my feet, socks, pants, goes after the kids and bites them and tries to play with them, but how do you stop them from bitting like this....

You hold the dog like a baby on its back while holding his/her mouth shut with your hands if they start trying to bite...you need them still. Stare into the dogs eyes until the dog looks away. This establishes dominance. I would hold the dogs mouth shut for 5 seconds or so every time they bite and say NO.

I trained dogs for 4 years while in 4-H, and we were told to place a hand on their throat, underneath their jaw when they're doing something they're not supposed to do. (While doing this also look into their eyes and say NO firmly). Dogs in the wild will bite (or hold) another dog's neck for dominance. When you do this it tells the dog YOU'RE the boss and to back off. You may have to do it a few times but he/she should get the hint!

Also keep in mind that puppies teeth as well as children, maybe he/she needs something to chew on like some rawhide? Or a toy maybe.

HTH! Good luck

If it is just socks and what not this wont work... but if he is after electrical cords etc... put some hot sauce on them and he will lick it then stay away.. the bad part is cleaning the cord afterward..

With my pup when she nipped at sock/feet I would smack her nose with one finger... not like extremely hard .. but enough to get her attention then I would say NO firmly.

It took about a week to break the habit. Now when playing, she will like growl and run at me.... if my finger gets in her mouth (somehow)... she will actually stop and start licking it... Now granted she has caught my finger a time or two when we were playing tug of war or whatever, but she hasnt nipped or bit since she was a puppy and i was training her

I recently started watching the dog whisperer and he is defiantly into being the alpha dog and maintaining dominance. Good luck and have fun with the cute puppy

The wonderful police were here this am... how do you get them to stop barking constantly?? We bought a training collar but haven't had time to get it going yet.

Be really careful when dealing with a Maltese. They are know for their eyes to POP Out of socket I mean litereally. They erquire very gentle care and cannot be handled roughly (Especially by children)
