read What kind of Cat litter do you use?

I have 5 cats 3 adults and 2 kittens. For the most part the big cats stay outside at all time.the only ones that use the littler box on a regular basis are the babies.I buy the scoopable cat litter but have a problem of the box smelling like urine even when its clean.do you think it could be the brand of litter I am using? I believe the brand I have now is cat's pride.
What litter brand do you use,and do you have any tips for the urine smell ?

We had that problem when we used the cheap stuff. But since we use scoopable we don't notice it smelling. We go about a month between changing litter, but our daughters scoop every night.

I have a total of 10 when the newest stray decides to come in. Used to use the cheap stuff, even Tidy Cats ... Still could always smell the boxes. Switched to Arm & Hammer Essentials {the corn based one} and it works wonders. I clean twice daily and once a week, change the litter in every box. You can't smell urine at all. At Walmart, its about $8.50 a bag.

I use whatever I can get free/cheap. I mix baking soda with the litter to get rid of the smell.

Whatever I can get free or cheap as well.

I rarely buy the non scoop kind but my kitten is a super pooper... Seriously.. so sometimes it just works out that way when I'm low on funds.

I love fresh step crystals. It's AMAZING. billy had no problem with it until he got fixed and now sometimes ill find poop outside the box (next to it) from him.

I have tons of it, so I mix it in with the cheap stuff for odor control.

I actually got this kind at kroger in a purple box... I don't recall what it was but it worked great!

The only downside is my litter box is mammoth, because of my foster cat who was about 20lbs, and requires a TON of litter to fill.

You have 10 cats? And you actually have them in your house? I thought 5 was alot. I will try that cat liter because if you have twice as many cats as I do and you say it works then it must be good. Do you ever find coupons for it?

Someone from here had given me an idea about 2 years ago. I was having an issue with being able to afford so much cat litter. We have 6 cats. A jug of cat litter was not going very far. Suggestion was to get a kitchen trashcan and mix scoopable littler with the cheap bags of Tidy cat clay litter. We usually mix about 5 lbs per 35 lb bucket of Tidy cat. This has saved us so much money. As far as smell, we stay on top of it. Clean out about 4 times a day. Haven't figured out how to get around it. Mention of a 20 lb cat. We have one that is older and 23lbs. We had to go to an under the bed storage container as a litter box, because she tried, but really had a hard time getting into a regular litter box.

Honestly, for a long time, I bought regular, non-scooping cat litter. When Tidy Cats in the bag was BOGO and the Qs were out, I could get the small bags for about .13 each! But, when I ended up with 3 cats, this litter didn't take care of the smell.

A friend kept telling me to get Fresh Step or Scoop Away in the boxes or jugs, but the deals are few and far in between for them. Finally, I scored a Free Q on Fresh Step, and once I used it, I would never go back to the cheap, non-scoopable stuff. I use the Fresh Step in a box and try to trade for the Free qs (Fresh step has a Paw Points reward program with codes on the boxes where you can save for free Qs), or find an occassional fair deal on it. I NEVER smells, and I don't have to dump the whole box out every day or every other day like I did with the cheap stuff. I have no urine odor problems at all since I started using it.

My mother suggested that!
I got The biggest hooded box I could find, with a wide opening. It was about 35$ at petsmart but worth every penny!

We have two cats, and use Tidy Cat Scoopable in the jugs. It's around eight or nine bucks at Target or Petsmart, but I can get it for about $5 at the commissary, plus a dollar off when they have pads of coupons lying around on the shelves. That's when we stock up, we'll get about fifteen or twenty jugs over the course of a month or so--a few each time we go to commissary so we don't clear the shelves or anything.

It works very well to control odor, but then I'm home all day and scoop several times, so it doesn't sit around long enough to start smelling! And I completely change it out about once every two weeks, to wash out the box and start fresh.

I don't have a cat but I use Tidy Cats Litter for my 2 month old canine Foxy. Lol every1 I tell about this laughs but I got her to do her business in it. I am home most of the day and night so I'm able to keep the box clean. It beats using newspaper 100% because it really stinks if I use newspaper (I used newspaper since Oct 30 when I had her spayed). Tidy Cats is considered a cheap brand for some but it gets an A+ in odor control.
