Help Sign Vestibular Disease - (dogs looks drunk)

My older husky, she is 13 used to have seizures (maybe 1 or 2 times a year). The last few years once she had one she would walk all drunk like or wobbly. A few months ago she had one and she has been walking this way since. She might look better for a few days but then she is back to walking crooked.

Her vet told us she probably has Vestibular disorder

Vestibular system in dogs maintains the orientation and balance. Many conditions can cause vestibular disease in dogs. Among these reasons, ear infections are more common. Other reasons can be head trauma, ear polyps, toxic reaction to metronidazole and deficiency of thiamine. Symptoms of vestibular disease in dogs are

Drunken walk , In coordination, Falling, Rolling, Circling, Head tilt, eye drift.

Just wandering if anyone's else's dogs have this?

I'm sorry your dog has this problem. It has to be so scary for her.

One of the cats we rescued had vestibular disease. His was caused from ingesting antifreeze. He had the wobbly walk, would run into walls, and had trouble looking at something for very long. The worst effect he had was that his depth perception was shot, and when he jumped up or down onto/from something, he would often miss.

when we give her treats, her mouth goes side to side so its like we got to do a hole in one shot and give it to her.

But one good thing she will sleep all day.. She does have woobly/sleeping legs in the morning when I let her out.. She has a hard time getting up without falling after sleeping for hours.

But she will still go barking at things and act normal... Next appt. I will have the doc check her ears to see if she has anything in there..

It is so sad but its funny too in a way just to see her. love her to death though....

I had a ferret with it. His prevoius owner slammed him into a wall. I would also have the vet check for a inner ear infection

My dog had this and I thought she was dying. I took her to the vet fully prepared for them to tell me that she would need to be put down. (she had a history of cancer and I thought it had spread to the brain) Her eyes were shifting back and forth and she could barely stand up. Medicine fixed her up in a couple of days.
Hope all goes well for your little guy

My dog had this for a little over the last year of her life (she died 3 weeks ago, but not from the Vestibular disease). She just had one episode at the beginning. Her head was tilted after that. It just made her cuter.

The did give her some meds at first, but i don't remember what they were. They tried steroids to straighten her head, but she got so sick on them, that I stopped them. Hope your doggie handles it ok.

those are the same symptoms my dog had, and I, too, thought she was dying or had a stroke.

Sorry for your loss. they do look cuter, don't they?

She is fine except this problem.. and it doesnt help when they are outside and the 4yr old male dog runs into her or tries to chase her...
