The problem with fleas is that they can live in the carpeting for months upon months. It takes the right temperature and humidity for them to become active. You have to be very diligent about vacuuming. Every time you do it, you must change your bag or empty the canister. Wash everything that the pet comes in contact with...bedding, blankets, floors...absolutely anything. You will want to use a flea product...advantix or Frontline Plus. I prefer Frontline (I'm a vet tech), it's a product that doesn't contain pesticides like some others, and it actually kills the fleas versus repelling them. But that's my opinion. But you HAVE to use a product consistently for at least the next 6 months. Be very regular about it. To be honest, I would make sure you go for at least a year. The reason for that is because the eggs live in the environment...and you don't know when they will hatch.

Thanks! I just bought a 6 month supply of advantix so I think I am going to finish that and then for on to comfortis. I guess treating fleas is like treating lice.. SO NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS! But I'm glad there are so many inexpensive ideas!

Ok, here is a cheap trick.... bathe your dog and then rinse with vinegar. I know it sounds strange, but there is something about it that fleas do not like. Oh, and when your dog dries, they do not smell like vinegar.

Go to your vet and ask for the pill that kills fleas. It cost less than $10 here and works great! I used it twice this summer on our dogs and saved lots of $$$!

Oh and if you want to give a bath regular Dawn soap is completely safe to use and kills them. This is what I use when I have pups with fleas since I can't use the reg meds/ baths.

Keep trying you will prevail!
This is exactly what do! Our previous neighbors dog was just one big walking flea, poor thing. And they rarely made it stay in their yard. So after not having fleas for years our dogs got them, probably 4 years ago. The same time our female lab was pregnant with her second litter.

Dawn dishwashing liquid for everyone, flea birth control (that's what our vet calls the flea pills for dogs because it causes the fleas to become sterile) and we treated our entire yard with a product that I can't remember the name of right now.

Once you get the right products and keep to it they will be gone. We haven't had fleas since.

Best of luck to you!!!!

My hubby is a pest control tech and i read this to him, and he said to be very careful with the borax because the fumes will become air born and then you will breath it in, and if anyone has small kids it could make them sick.

Also he said that maybe your dog has a reaction to the flea treatments.

I know with 1 of my cats, i can't use certain flea treatments or flea collars because he is allergic to them. the last time i used the treatment his hair fell out and he was bald on the spots where i put it.

I would think that is very dangerous to take a chance of aerosolizing Sevin dust into the air you breathe? There are less toxic ways to get rid of fleas, please be careful
