My cat has a huge lump!

I cant figure out what is going on with my 6 year old cat. About 2 weeks ago we noticed a little lump above her front shoulder but it didnt seem to bother her so I wasnt too conscerned about it. Just yesterday I noticed it is almost golf ball sized!! I dont think it is cancer or a tumor because its not round or soft. It almost feels like her shoulder is popped out of joint and swollen or something because it is really hard and misshaped. I dont know what to do. It doesnt seem to bother her in the least even when you touch or push on it. We do not have the money to take her to the vet right now as we have had a death in the family and had some unexpected expenses due to that! If anyone knows what it could be I would sure appreciate you sharing. My mom thought maybe it was a calcium deposit or something but I dont see how that could get sooo huge sooo fast........ she is loved by my 5 children and we are all worried!

Oh no. Can you maybe see if a vet will offer a payment plan?? Could she have been bitten by something? (Although not sure why it would take that long to get huge..) It doesn't seem like it would be her shoulder popped out if she is walking normally. I hope you can get her to a vet to figure out what is going on!! I'm sorry for the loss in your family too. Keep us posted.

I'm also sorry for the loss in your family. My first thought was an abscess, they fill with pus and grow very hard quickly, but those can be very painful. I wish I could help more. I would also recommend the vet, because if it happens to be an abscess they can make your cat very ill if not taken care of. I'm no vet, just throwing a guess out there.

I hope you can get her some help. It sounds like you all love her lots!

Please keep us posted!

My guess would also be an abcess, that happend to my cat once. I would also suggest calling and seeing if you can get a payment plan during ofc hours because if you have to go to an emerg clinic that will cost alot more and most of them are payment at time of service. Good luck.

Thank you all so much for your response! I thought I might research it on the web a little and unfortunaltly the only thing that sounds like what she has is this:

When a Lump May Be a Cancer: Rapid enlargement; appears hard or fixed to surrounding tissue; any lump growing from bone.

I guess I will call the vet tommorow and see if they can work something out with me! I was soooo hoping this was something else. Poor baby! Thanks again, everyone, I really appreciate it.

I'm so sorry about your kitty. I hope your vet works with you and you are able to have her looked at. Personally, I think all vets should be required to accept payments. Too many animals don't get treatment because their owners can't afford it My vet refuses to accept payments, and I've found myself in your position a couple times. Good luck! I hope everything turns out OK.

Does the tea have caffine? I don't think that would be a good idea if so...

Not sure on tea but my vet has said that my cats can have gatorade, 7up & pedialyte (probably spelled wrong).

Gosh, I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty. I agree with seeing the vet. I know our vet has a payment plan but it's a financed one I think. You get approved and then make payments through some other company.

Please keep us posted & I'll keep you and your furbaby in my prayers.

not to unduely scare you but we had a cat quite a few years ago who developed a lump on his leg and it turned out to be feline leukemia. This was before they offered the vaccinations. Your kitty has probably had the shot for this.

our fat cat had a lump off to the right of her back. We noticed it right after a set of shots, so I assumed it was that until my hubby said that wasnt the injection site. So in wrestling with him to get him in the carrier, he's about 20+ pounds, I smelled something AWFUL. I thought I made him fart out of nervousness but when I pulled him away from me, my shirt was a mess with a wet watered down blood that STUNK so bad! Here he had an abcess, and in wrestling around, I popped it. The vet didnt even want to see him, he said I did all he could.

I hope it's nothing serious for him.

I had a cat Christina as a kid who got an abcess on her stomach. She had this mass hanging down and we took her to the vet and the vet just squeezed it with her and and it popped open. It was so disgusting. But boy she felt better after that even though she had a hole on her stomach for awhile til it healed up.

My Misty had a small fatty tumor removed from her tail earlier this year. I first noticed it when it was barely anything at all. I am paranoid and am always feeling on them to make sure they have no lumps. (Other then fat rolls ) At first the vet couldn't even feel it but after about a year it grew pea sized and I told them I wanted it off.

for your kitty. I hope you are able to get help!
