Christope leave in conditioner- Great for my dog

I got this free at CVS with a peelie and sale or what have you. My mini-dachshund gets terrible dry skin after baths in the winter months, he itches horribly afterward. But he needs them because he's low to the ground and gets dirty quick. I'd tried a conditioning dog shampoo but it didn't seem to help, then I tried a separate doggie conditioner type product, same results.

On a whim, I sprayed on the Christophe leave-in conditioner after his bath last week. No itching since! Woohoo, I'm so glad. Plus, the scent is mild but lasts a long time, combats his stinky breath . If he starts itching again before his next bath, I think I'll re-apply it. We don't use leave-in conditioner so I would've ended up donating it or gifting it anyway. When I run out of this bottle, I figure I'll have been able to find some other brand free to try next.

Sigh, my dog is using nicer hair products than me.

I always use conditioner on my little dog for a bath--never thought of a leave in! Thanks for the tip!

For dry skin you can also try a fatty acid supplement, you can buy dog specific ones at the vet's office or added a little bit of oil to their food - say safflower oil or maybe corn. Just drizzle some on each meal.

Tip 1: too much could cause GI upset, so gradually increase
Tip 2: Give it time, anytime you give something by mouth for the skin, it will take at least 30 days to see a change and that is how long it takes for the cells to shed to next leave.

The oils will help with dry skin and hopefully some itching but remember some animals have allergies either inhalation or food or combination of both and would require other medications.

As for inhalation allergies, we can run tests which challenge animal against about 50 allergens but what is interesting is that they can be allergic to things like cotton, cigarette smoke, HOUSE DUST MITES!, certain grasses (not like you can ask neighbor to change lawn!!)

Hope that helps!

When I run out of doggie shampoo for Fluffy, I use Pantene Pro-V shampoo and conditioner. She's got thick coarse hair and it softens it. And really makes her soft and she doesn't scratch as much.

Maggie, on the other hand, needs whitening shampoo, so I can't use the Pantene on her. I've tried, it doesn't clean her as good as the whitening does.

the vet had told me I was over-bathing, he got yeast in his ears. But he's low to the ground, he gets dirty fast and he is not the most continent dog on the planet. I've used the leave-in conditioner twice after his bath, I've been not getting water near his face and it's working. No itching, no flakes of dry skin and he just went to the vet, no ear issues. Yay.

YEAST!! perhaps this is what's up with my pups ear. They are clean as a whistle but do have a smell. I can not believe with all the YEASTY people I clean at work I did not figure this one out, ESPECIALLY the smell!! I figured mites, but they are not dirty. I think i will try a bit of cream it to see if it works.
Thanks!!

same thing for me, I was like "how did I not figure this out?"

his the smell was noticeable but the inside of his ears looked ok. The tech told me to put a q tip in and if it was brown, it was prob yeast.

One of my cats got a yeast infection in his ear. I used apple cider vinegar diluted with water and it worked great!

YW! Just mix 2 parts water to 1 part of the cider and wipe the ear out with it. Maybe squeeze a little in there so it gets down in the canal. Worked so great it cleared it up in a day!
