Cats

Ok so we just got a little kitty. I have a dog and well I always buy him Iams as it is cheapest for us with coupons and such. I am wondering what food people buy for their kitties. I would like to get him on a food and keep him on it, So what food do you get and feel is the best price and good for them as well. I have tons of these coupons Hills Science Diet Natures Best Dry Dog or Cat Food, any 3 lb.+ is that a good brand and good coupon? I guess I would need to know the cost of this as to know if that is even worth it. Anyways I need some help..

I had an auction a while back and gave all my good freebies and most of the cat coupons that I had in that.

Just looking for some advice!

I think the Science Diet is expensive even with the q's. I buy my outside cats dry cat chow or friskies and my inside cat gets wet friskies/meow mix. I think those are both great choices. I have never had any problems with them. They seem to like the friskies the best out of all the purina brands, though.

So I went and I ended up getting IAM because I had a $3 off coupon for it. What is the difference between outside and inside foods? We plan on this cat being indoor most but also outdoor at times.

Can anyone tell me how often you change out the liter completely? I read someone scoops every other day, but what about replacing and all that?

Thanks everyone!

I buy my 2 cats Cat Chow but when I have a coupon for something different I buy that and give them some of that for a treat every morning. They seem to like the change from all of he normal treats they get. As for the litter I scoop twice a day and change it out when you can start smelling it even when it's clean, mostly once a month. We have 2 cats and 2 litter boxes, so some may change it more if they only have 1 litter box. Hope this helps.

You can tell when the litter needs to be changed, it will be very obvious.

Whatever cat food you decide on, don't switch from brand to brand to brand. If you are changing the food, they suggest adding a little more of the new food every day until they are only eating new food. It is supposed to upset there tummies to make an abrupt switch.

Welcome to having a cat. I love my two boys and I know you will love your kitty too!!

I dont like to feed my outside cats wet food because of the insects/flies that are attracted to it. But, if you are feeding inside it doesn't matter. I empty the litter once a week and scoop during the week as needed. Since I just have one inside cat, it doesn't get too bad.

Feeding!

I feed both of my kitties The Goodlife Recipe. They LOVE the dry kibble. Of course, I spoil them every morning with wet food. They both share a can of fancy feast elegant medly's or a pouch of Whiskas. My kitten has now taking a liking to eating the dog's food. Not sure what's going on with her there!!

As far as litter goes, I scoop out the dirty litter every day.

So we made it through the night! I think a kitty is so much easier then a puppy specially when they alreay know to go in the litter box. He is doing good. So another question. I didn't ask what type of food the kitty was on and not sure if they fed wet food or not, but I guess I am thinking that he will get a treat in the mornings and dry through out the day. He was crying a little last night but I guess that is to be expected! My son has cleaned out the litter twice now!

If I were you, I would NOT feed any wet food. This will save you money in the long run. Dry cat food is just fine ... I've raised and still am, numerous cats on dry food only. Our 'new' kitten was on wet food before we got him, he is now on dry food only. Our vet told us all they need is the dry food and lots of water to get their nutrients.

Dry food, indoor cats, I use Purina One and outside cats mostly Friskies, but I feed strays so will go with anything cheap as they will eat anything.

The crying is expected, did you let him sleep with you or have run of the house?

Litter - I TRY to scoop it every day, but i have 2 cats and only 1 box. I also use Feline Pine instead of litter, less smell. The bigger the kitten will get, the bigger the smell LOL...

This is what I feed mine too. I have three cats but one has digestive issues (aka he is bulimic and tries to wolf it all down so he can purge a few moments later to keep his 16lb figure ) this food has helped a lot. Now I only have to deal with his issues maybe once or twice a week vs. what felt like 900 times a day
