Yesterday was the first day of Water Tots for my 17 month old daughter. It was great!!! She had so much fun with her Dad and really enjoyed being in the water. If you have little ones, I highly suggest signing them up. The very first class the parent's were shown how to teach your baby how to hold their breath and go under. Niya went under 3 times. I'm so proud of her. She has another lesson on Thursday and will go for the next 3 wks, 2 days a week.

Has anyone else signed up there little one's for swim lessons?

The recreation center in our area ofter Adult class. It may be a start to help with your fear. I had a friend who was exactly the same way and signed up for lessons about two years ago so that she would be able to help her little girl learn to swim.

My DD is a little swimmer and DS will learn to love the water. You can't be part of my family and not like it--we were all raised at a pool every summer growing up. That seems like a fun idea, I will look into it for DS.

How cute! Thanks for sharing! I wish that Weatherford had a rec center - we just have one public pool and it is tiny. Was the class expensive? My dh would love to get dd into a class like this next year

It was $49 for 2 days a week for 4 weeks.

Yeah! Its super that you are exposing her to this so early in life. I did the same with DD and now she thinks she's a mermaid. Well at least she can swim like one!

We start on Monday, I am so excited!!! My DD loves the water and I signed up to drown proof her because she loves to run towards the pool!! She just turned a year on May 20th and spends almost every day in the water!!!
Ours is 4 classes a week for 2 weeks (monday-thursday). I think the cost was $40 at our local YMCA. She is in the six month-2 year age range so a bunch of kids from playgroup will be in the class with us.

I believe they do, but I wouldn't know the start age.

The YMCA in our area starts them out at six months old for a parent and baby class.
I had my DD in and indoor pool around 7 or 8 months and she wasn't too fond of it. But once the Y opened the outdoor pool, I took her out and she loves it now. She had just turned a year when they opened the pool and she is in there everyday. Needless to say I signed her up for the class!!!

My DS starts in a few weeks. We're going to Aqua tots. He loved the water last year but this year is very fearful. We went twice this week and he was scared to death. We got him a small pool for the backyard and got in it for the first time today and he did okay w/ that. He's almost 18mo so about the same age as your DD.

That's so great... I'm glad she's enjoying it...It's amazing that she's taking to the lessons so young! My daughter loves the pool, but she's only 12 months.. Next summer I'll def get her lessons... Thanks for sharing!

My daughter is only 12 months to and the swim lessons are working on her. Well they are mainly giving me ideas as to what to do with her in order to help her swim better in the future. She is a little fish and LOVES the water.
She does get a big kick out of them, today we learned wait for mommy. She had to sit by the side of the pool and wait as I backed away. Trust me she came really close to jumping in a few times...thankfully the lifeguard was standing right there. That is one of my biggest fears, we get close to the pool and she starts running towards it!!!
