Teacher Appreciation Week Idea's May 1-7 is National PTA’s Teacher Appreciation Week. I am heading it for both of my boys classes. Here is the flyer I am sending home with the kids. Obviously, I staple it shut with the envelope. Our PTA makes a big deal out of this week but this is just for my kids teachers. Hope it helps someone with an idea. I would love to hear what you guys are doing!

Barb - I love you - Thanks for giving me a template for our Teacher Week! I have been putting off doing it and have got to do something ASAP. I am planning on having the kids bring fruit for a fruit bowl, candy for their teacher, and instead of the notes going to the principal, I want the teachers to receive them directly. Now to find vases very cheap! Thinking creativity needs to start yesterday on what to use for them. Even the $ store is too expensive when you have 40 teachers. We have having a bbq on Friday for our teachers too. The PTA will also leave small tokens in the teacher's boxes each day to show our appreciation too.

Barb -- on your doc it says TUES: Send in attached sheet. What is on that attached sheet??

I took Barb's letter and modified it so that we can send it home with all of our students. This was done two years ago and the teachers loved it and were disappointed that it was not done last year.

I tried to upload it but it wouldn't. It is a pre-fabed form that the kids use to write a thank you note to their teacher. If you have edhelper you can make one with the teachers name on it. As long as the requests aren't too many, I can make a couple for those that do not have access to edhelper.com. Dawn--that is why on Thurday they write the note to the principal. The teacher gets one on Tuesday.

Dawn--just read yours and I LOVE the fruit and sweets one. Ya know, an idea that I just thought of...stocking the teachers lounge with comfort items--boxes of tea, equal, honey--other little items--teachers what would you like in your lounge--ya know, the little stuff you sometimes wish was around. When I taught a parent sent in a huge bottle of ibuprofen on the first day of school with a note that said something like--since I won't be needing these anymore, I thought you might like them.

LOVE the advil idea! That would have been gone at my old school by the end of the first week! I'll have to remember that when my kids got to real school (no lounge at the pre-school level!).One of the best things I ever got was a note from a parent telling me what a difference I'd made in her child's life. She couldn't spell any better than her LD 1st grader & had NO money, so it was a piece of 1st grade writing paper glued to a piece of cardboard from a box that she had glued a really cheap bit of fabric around. It made me cry & I still have it. I also still have the ones that were nicely typed. All of the letters I ever got from parents or students (except the previously described one that sat on my desk) were in a "I had a really bad day" file in my filing cabinet & I would pull them out on the days I wanted to quit. The funny thing is that even the notes that said I was the meanest teacher ever brought a smile to my face! |

LW -- talking about the best gift -- my first yr working, I received a pair of junky ol' earrings from this little kindergartener. He was being raised by grandma (who couldn't read/write to save her life) and they had little-to-no money. I truly think he took the earrings off grandma's dresser and wrapped them. No kidding -- all that was in the box were earrings, no cardboard for them to hang off of; just the earrings. I never did wear them (sorry, the gift truly touched my heart; but the holes in my ears turn bright red just looking at junk jewelry). It just truly touched my heart that he wanted to give me something.
