Parents Issue of Nov. 2010-5 Misery-Enders (When the kids are sick) !!!
You shouldn't give your child medicine if he's younger than 6, but you can try other remedies. 1. Honey-It quiets kids' coughs better than OTC cough syrup and helps them sleep. Look for darker honeys; they have more antioxidants. Never give any to babies under age 1. 2. Chicken Soup-It isn't just a comfort food. Research has found that this age-old cold remedy actually reduces the inflammation that causes cold symptoms. 3.Rest-Sleep and immunity are tightly linked, so it's best to keep the kids home, let them lie on the couch, and put them to bed early when they have the flu or a fever. 4.Drinks-Fluids soothe a child's scratchy, prevent dehydration, and thin mucus so it drains more easily. Jell-O and Popsicles can do all of this too. 5.Disinfecticting-To keep germs at bay after your child's been sick, wash her sheets and clothes in hot water, change her toothbrush, and use germ-killing wipes to sterilize hard surfaces. |

Honey-It quiets kids' coughs better than OTC cough syrup and helps them sleep. Look for darker honeys; they have more antioxidants. Never give any to babies under age 1. It says Never to give babys under age 1. I tried this with our 1 1/2 year old. She was sooo sick. Sshe had a cough, runny nose, fever...(Flu) I gave her lots of fruits, juices, vitamins. She's big enough to eat little chunks so I buy gummie vitamins and cut them in half to eat at breakfast..Same with chewable vit. C. I like to have the second opinion of a doctor, but why not try natural remedies first..Might save you some gas...We are at $3.90 ![]() |
