So DD who is 16 months doesnt eat much anymore. She wont even eat her favorite foods. She will take a bite or two and then start playing with it. Is this normal? I feel as if she is not getting enough to eat, but dont know how to "make" her eat. |

It's not uncommon for a child to go a number of days without eating much. As long as she's acting otherwise normal, you probably don't have anything to worry about. To be on the safe side, though, talk to your pediatrician about this.

My DD went through that phase too. I felt bad because I thought it was my fault but when I asked around and checked the baby websites, they said it was normal. They said that as long as I provided a variety of healthy options that I was doing ok. I also counted a lot on snack times because she thought they were fun. I give her string cheese,or shredded cheese, goldfish, mandarin oranges when she was that age but now she can have grapes and apples. I also give her pretzels and yogurt. She still is pretty picky she does not like veggies but I have noticed that when she watches me eat something she wants it too....so sometimes she'll have carrots and peas. She gets a PB & J sandwich and she doesn't mind the wheat bread. She eats really good now that she is 2 1/2 yrs....but now I have DS 18 month old doing it , but it's easier now because I know it's just a phase. ![]() |

I have discovered with my little ones (ds4 and dd4) that when they don't eat much, they seem to grow! I would also talk to the dr just to be safe, but most kids do this. Just watch! In a few days she will eat everything in sight! Sent from my Samsung EPIC using AFullCup

My son is 29 months old. He is only about 22 lbs. He is very picky and some days will not eat at all. I try to supplement those days with pediasure. Is her weight fine? My son has been small since birth (5lbs3oz), the dr was concerned at one point, but then said as long as he is gaining, he is on his own curve. less than 5%. |

My pediatrician once told me to measure a childs food intake by the week rather than by the day. I found this advice very comforting when we went thru our "refusal" period!
