Teacher Appreciation is next week (5/7-5/11) What is your school doing? Since this is what I am charge of, I can share all my son's school is doing: 4 out of the 5 days, there will be a spread of food for the teachers. Monday starts off with a healthy breakfast of fruits and granola bars and what not. Tuesday is snacks day. Thursday is sweets day. Friday is a hot lunch -- had to dip into my budget for that one BUT the restaurant that will be catering it (Smokey Bones) gave me 25% discount. They ROCK! A flyer went home this week with kid-involved activities for next week. EX: Monday they are all to wear red to celebrate how RED HOT our teachers are. My favorite thing is what my son's class is doing: my son wanted a shirt that said "MY TEACHERS ROCK!". I told this to another parent in his class and we thought it would be neat if every child in the class wore a shirt like that. I went to Michael's and priced the Tshirt + the iron on paper to put thru my printed and figured out the cost at a low $4 per child! All the parents loved the idea and the $$ is trickling in. I will be spending the weekend pressing Tshirts, but I am quite excited about the idea! ![]() Anyone else have ideas to share?

Lynda~ I taught 4th grade for 20 years and I can tell you that whatever you do, it will be loved by the teachers. It sounds like you have some great plans. Especially the teeshirts! The only thing that I would add is to tell the kids (and their parents) to appreciate their teachers EVERYDAY. They work hard for their students, usually out of love for teaching. And although they always hear about the bad things, it's not often that they hear about the good. So from this retired teacher, thank you for all you're doing. ~Faith

| Ours ended today but the theme was "The Great Prairie Preschool Movie." The first day was a Academy Awards Luncheon and the teachers walked down a red carpet lined with handprints from all of the children in the school just like Graumann's Chinese Theatre. The 2nd day the parents take over traffic duties and the staff each received a red carnation as they entered the school and all received thank you letters from the parents. The 3rd day the parent volunteers again took over traffic and a appetizer and juice party was given between the morning and afternoon sessions. On the 4th day a "casting call" breakfast was provided with assorted pastries and juices. Today for the final day the parents all donated homemade cookies for a cookie walk. They could come in and snack and there were several gallons of milk to go with it before taking a box home and each staff member received a $15 gift card. | Our highschool celebrated all staff members this week. Sometimes the assistants do more of the "dirty" work than the teachers. Esp. EC. |

For oldest son's class (Kindergarten) .... there are 16 kids in his class, and each kid brought in 16 flowers for each teacher (2 teachers in each classroom) ... so each teacher got 256 flowers ... by Friday, the room looked like the flowery meadow from "Little House on the Prairie". For youngest son's class (pre-K)... they had a "we love our teachers" parade through the room ... all the parents were there, and everyone clapped and everything. Very fitting.

Here is a photo of all the kids wearing their MY TEACHERS ROCK t-shirts. Take a quick look, I don't think I will keep the photo posted publicly for long: Last edited by LyndaSLP; 05-14-2007 at 02:23 PM.

Impressive I have worked in schools 30 years on "staff" as ex sec to adm and sch bd and I am impressed with what you all have done for TAW. Also for the way you have included the staff. Needlesstosay, it has not always been done that way. I have even seen it go so far as the parent organization providing coffee and goodies on a regular basis and saying it was "only for the teachers and not for the staff, too." That went a long way toward negative PR. It only lasted awhile, because the adm said for all or for none. So I am impressed with you guys. Thanks for the good work you are doing.

Having just the teachers get stuff seems kind of mean! Maybe just since I'm at the preschool level so far but I find the the aides/therapist do just as much as the teachers (if not more hands on.) In fact when the weekly newsletter comes home for each class it is signed by all of the class staff as "the team." My kids don't know any different and so far I like it that way. They really are like a team which makes them ALL important.

As a teacher I can say by far that my favorite gift to give and get is a bottle of wine. Seriously, the BEST gift ![]()
