| Birth Control options...
I go to the doctor tomorrow for my one a year check up and I am going to talk to him about BC (birth control). My DS is 2 and my DD is 1. I was on BC right after I had my dd but stopped it because of some side affects. I was on YAZ also after my son and the side affects i had from that were dizzyness headaches... light headed. I really want to be on birth control because I do NOT want to get pregnant right now but I also don't want one that alters my mood or anything else. I simply want a BC to help from getting prego. I would love to go on Mirena but my insurances does not cover it... and we don't have the extra money for it. I was thinking about the NuvaRing and just wanted other peoples opinions/ suggestions. The reason I was thinking the ring is because I don't do well with taking pills every day even if I leave them in the bathroom or by the night stands.... I just don't do well.

I have used the Nuva Ring before and I hated it. I always had stomach aches and unwanted symptoms that usually come with the stomach aches. I'm sure it is different with every person. Another down side of the ring is it can come out during intercourse. I have also tried the patch, Which left scabs when I took it off. It would also collect lint around the rims, which was noticable and nasty to look at. I have been on birth control, which is how I became pregnant. (because I forgot to take them) Now I am on Mirania. Which is working out pretty well. I don't know how much it costs, but I do know that it is expensive. Maybe your clinic will allow you to pay installments. It may seem like alot upfront, but it lasts for 5 years...so you can do the math. Good luck!

I'm not great with pills either. The Nuva ring or the patch didn't work for me. Neither were strong enough. I tried the Mirena but I gained weight and was so emotional on it. So after this baby is born I'm trying the paraguard IUD. It has no hormones but I heard it hurts more to put in however, it lasts for 10 years!!! No pills, no remembering to replace it or anything. The most you do is check to make sure it's there once a month.

I just got my tubes tied 2 years ago. But I didnt want anymore kids period. So thats an option if you know you do not want anymore children at all. But if you think you may want another, BC is the way to go.. I havent been on bc in years but after my first i was on the patch which was good for a while then all of then sudden it was non stop b leeding and mood swings, was crazy. I used the patch for about 8 months before it started messing with me. Then a few months later I got pregnant with my 2nd. LoL. after her I dont remember taking any birth control but I did get pregnant again when she was almost 11 months old. After my son was born I got on BC but I cannot remember what the brand was at the moment but when he turned 1 i decided to go ahead and get my tubes tied.

I know for sure my doc won't prescribe the patch.... I really really really don't want any more kids right now so that is my fear that everything I go on I will get pregnant. Right now (well out least for a year) we have been using the pull out method... which does work... but my husband doesn't like it... but it works for me... . I just really really don't want to be pregos right now...

You said that insurance doesn't cover Mirena but does it cover Paragard? That's a non-hormonal IUD.

I have the Mirena - it's okay. I have weird "non-periods" where I get all PMSy but then don't get the "release" of the actual bleeding. (I hope that is not too graphic). It was $500 about 3-4 years ago. I'd prob. do it again - just b/c no worries. Haven't heard of Paraguard but will ask about it. Have you tried the shots? Some people really like them, others don't. Everyone I know that tried the NuvaRing HATES them - mostly b/c they fall out. I've only had pills and Mirena so I'm not much help there. Just one thought: There's a name for people who practice the pull out method - Parents!! glad it's worked this long - but I'd def. look into options!! ![]() Good luck!! |

My friend was on the shots.. it actually makes you lose bone density so you can't take it for too long. My friend was on it for 5 years and then stopped because of the loss. We practiced the pull out method as well.. and now I'm pregnant!! I was just waiting for those two weeks until I got my paraguard in.. OOPS!!

Have you looked into Implanon, the upper arm implant? My insurance won't cover Mirena, but will cover the implant. It goes in the upper arm and lasts up the 3 years....good chances of pregnancy quickly after removal if you do decide you want more kiddos.....

Everyone's opinions are great, but side effects of bc are different for everyone. A couple people said they didn't like the Nuva Ring because it fell out. I used it and never had a problem with it coming out and DH said he couldn't feel it at all. I loved it, but I had a hard time remembering to put it back in a week after I took it out. I'm about as forgetful as it gets! I used the patch in high school and bled a horrible amount. The pill worked for me, but I forgot to take it ALL THE TIME!! My sister sets a recurring alarm on her cell phone so it goes off every night reminding her to take it. Just look into all of your options. You'll know which one is best for you even if you have to eliminate through trial and error. |
