My dd is turning 5 at the end of the month, and I'm at a total loss for b-day ideas.
She's a unique kid, not really into "traditional" girl things - doesn't play with dolls, etc. She loves to read, do crafts, and play outside - but isn't the most coordinated kid.
We thought about a bike but we live in a rural area and she wouldn't really have anywhere to ride it outside of our driveway, and I don't think she could handle riding it on the grass. We gave her a huge "craft basket" for christmas. She's the first granddaughter on both sides - so is a bit spoiled by the grandparents.
Any thoughts are appreicated.

Stuff to make mud pies, bubbles, sprinkler, water balloons, chalk???

What about the crayola color wonder magic light up paintbrush? My niece and nephew LOVE this because of the "magic" and my sister loves that there's no paint all over her house. If you get it at AC moore or Michaels crafts, use a 50% or 40% off coupon and a nice cheap gift! Also, that sprinkler that looks like a millipede----a long body with "arms" coming off of it....they all have holes so water goes EVERYwhere....totally fun!

Do she like music ?
My daughter is the same, not into dolls. "toys" don't really keep her attention.
For her 5th birthday we bought her the Disney princess CD player and some Cds.
Kidzbop and the Disney ones are good.
