Question about rash?

So my DS went to bed last night with a very slight fever, 100 degrees. He went
to bed with a clean diaper. He woke up this morning without a fever and I went
to change his diaper which was only a little bit wet. There was a really pink
raised rash all around his hips along his diaper. It also went onto his back and
in between his legs a bit. I have never seen him break out with such large
raised areas before. He keeps scratching it and saying that it hurts.

First question, is this something I should be concerned about? Could he be
having an allergic reaction to something? (Although I cant think of anything
that he would be reacting to)

Second question, what is the best way for me to treat this rash? I put Benadryl
cream on it but he still keeps scratching at it and complaining.

I am sure it is nothing to really worry about, but being a concerned mommy, I
just thought I would get ya'lls thoughts.

Is he on antibiotics?

It could be a yeast infection. My son gets really bad one's when he takes antibiotics. I just use an over the counter medication to help it.

Some info on yeast rash:

He's not on antibiotics. I just checked again and most of the rash has gone away. However, there are still some red raised swollen areas. At least he has let me put a diaper back on him.

Yes, it could be an allergic reaction. It could be an infection of some sort too, since he had a fever.

My boys have had raised itchy rashes on their legs before. Realized they are allergic to grass.

The worst in-the-diaper rash we've ever had was an allergic reaction to prescription allergy medicine, of all things.

My first was also allergic to all kinds of wipes - we had to use disposable washcloths. That took forever to figure out! As new parents, we thought all babies had diaper rash and thought it was pretty normal. Eeek, I hate to think about it now.

I think I'd call the doctor. Did you take any pictures? They don't let you email them (baby porn I guess) but if it is coming and going, you can take the photo to the appt. to show the Dr. where it is and how severe.

Good luck!

Thank you!

It cleared up the next day and his fever never returned. So I am thinking it was from the sweat from his sleeping and having a fever. My DS has very sensitive skin so he reacts to a lot of things. This was the first time I had seen a rash/hives like this. Good news is that it is gone and he is doing better.

BTW, I have dealt with those terrible diaper rashes before, the ones that are really bad Yeast infections. Oh My! I would wipe him clean and he would bleed. I felt terrible. I used Flanders and it worked wonders! Of course the doc also prescribed a yeast cream too. He was BF then and I ended up with Mastitis from his infection. That was rough!!!!
