Brand Name clothing for Jr high? I am tired of fighting the battle of kids tesing my daughter at school...they are teasing her because of what she wears. Heaven forbid that she wears the same top in the same month! No joke. She is not picky on what she wears. She wants to be confortable and wears what is to her. Anyway...what names are considered "popular" with kids now adays. I know that Old Navy is OUT. That is all I know.

Best thing to do is ask her what is popular at her school - different parts of the country are into different brands I have found. Jr high is the absolute worst time to not have the "right" clothes so get her what you can. TJ Maxx and Ross are great places to get the cute stuff cheap. Went through all of this with DH's youngest sister and NSD both and just can't wait to do it again with Skye. Thank goodness for school uniform policies. ![]()

Poor thing! Sounds like it's time for uniforms at that school! Is the other store Aeropostale? That store always looks pretty trendy.

There's a second hand store here & I'm pretty sure it's a chain called Plato's Closet that caters to teens w/ the big names, etc. Don't know if they have it in your area or not...Marshall's, TJMaxx, etc. carry "names" for less than retail...good luck & I agree about Jr. High being the worst time not to have the cool stuff

I completely understand what you are going through. My teenage daughter was outed by some of her "friends" for a music video they are making in school because she did not have the right "Hollister" shirt. Anyway some brands I know of are... Hollister, Abercrombie and Fitch, GAP, American Eagle, Aeropostale, These are all pretty spendy but I seem to be able to find quite a few of them along with many others at my local thrift stores. Good Luck.

We love Plato's Closet. Check out their website to see if one is close to you. It is a franchise that is a teen re-sale shop. Great prices: jeans $10-$18, shirts, shoes. DD would love to live at Hollister, PacSun and Hot Topic, but considers this a reasonable second choice. They also have stamp cards so get a stamp for every $$ and when card is full, it's 20% off next visit. HTH, Shay |

My daughter wears Bubblegum, Angels, SO, Hint, LEI, Paris Blues But we don't shop Hollister or Abercrombie. We shop either Kohl's or The Dirty Hippo (which is a second hand teenage clothing store)

there is a hollister in the mall near shopz's mom's house - for four+ years i thought it was a restaurant and i couldn't figure out how you walked in the place - i'm not kidding - then i see all these kids wearing the shirts and i'm thinking "when did hollister, mass. become such a popular town?" i am still of the opinion that these kinds of clothes for kids and the marketing that makes the other kids make fun of them is outrageous - why play into it? it's better to educate your kids as to why the other kids are making fun of them - how the marketing works - and why they should not be made to feel inadequate because they did not purchase something. your kid should be going into school raising their head high that they are smart enough not to get suckered into this garbage and know that the other kids will spend fortunes in their lifetime constantly chasing it. sit down with your kids and the advertisements and show them exactly how they are made to feel like the hot girl or the hot guy will never sleep with them because they don't hang out with the "hollister" crowd. go there to the store and show them how it is laid out intentionally, how the "hip" music is selected. go to the store and ask to see the single most expensive item in the store, then take them home and show them online how much it costs to make. i knew a guy in his forties was still caught up in brand names. 300+ lbs walking down to his car in the middle of summer wearing a NAUTICA sweatshirt sweating like crazy because he thought women would notice it. now he's broke has no health insurance and is in a nursing home dying because he was diabetic and just drank pepsi on an empty stomach all day since the pepsi marketing got to him too! in the "old days" you were supposed to tell them to get a job and pay for their own hollister shirt and then ask them if it was worth it they would say no - now they are such sheep they say yes and work harder and harder until they have bought out the store - they're like logaberger basket junkies (we all know one). as one of the few non-parents on here i'm a little shocked that i am the first one to say this in this thread. if you are at your wits end with the marketing why not make a homemade shirt that says "f--k hollister" or something to that effect. do it with a magic marker - looks more "punk". one one hand i would love to see parents keep on buying stuff - thank you pokemon for paying my rent many times - but not you gals - this is a website about saving money and living "thrifty" - not to an extremist degree, but in general - every book says the same thing - you can not be brand name loyal if you want to save money i saw this one video of this teenage girl and jared from subway had been to her school to talk and she was crying because she couldn't afford to eat at subway every day and so how was she ever going to lose weight and she was going to be fat forever and now she thought she was becoming suicidal because she couldn't afford to buy subway every day.. dude it was SICK. (yes, in a bad way, not in a california-surfer-ninja-turtles kinda way). you know how many kids got ipods for christmas only to learn they didnt have the proper computer setup or enough money to load it up with music? i've heard this story at least four times so far this year. if your kid was told they were not allowed to participate in something at school because they had the wrong shirt you need to go have a school meeting about these ideas - this stuff is outrageous.. p.s. i will check out if i can find any hollister coupons.

"Punish Me" !?!? Who would send your kid to school wearing a shirt that said "Punish Me"!?!?!? |

While I totally agree with you Riff, we're grown ups (so, NO, none of those T Shirts will be entering my house on my boys...) and "get it", but I remember being a tweener girl who's mom MADE her wear these strange things she bought because she thought they were in...OMG - it wasn't as bad as it is now I don't think, but honestly, to a 12 or 13 year old girl, looking like your friends IS the most important thing in the world. Personally, for me, it lasted from 6th - 9th grade, then I was over it (mostly over it by 9th)...of course, by then I'd also realized I didn't actually LIKE most of the people I'd been trying to be like!

I agree 100% with you Sam. Once you become a parent and see that all this teasing over the years is wearing your little girl down, you just give up and give in. It is not my daughter who wants these clothes for herself...it is me. I want the teasing to stop and if I buy "some" of these clothes, then maybe "some" of the teasing will stop. I can't stand to see my little girl (age 12) hurting. It breaks your heart and you want to kick everyones @ss that is ever mean to your child. She is also being teased by boys because her "ex" boyfriend dumped her on her birthday. This boy is a good kid, but he goes along with his peers. It is really old since my daughter's b-day was Dec 13th. This boy does not stick up for her. Plus..(not related to teasing) people have been so rude to her selling GS cookies. People that have bought in the past....have told her no rudely and hang up the phone. OK...it has been a hard weekend as a parent. I am going to check out Platos closet. If anyone has any outgrown "popular" clothing, plmk.
