Hi,
I know that you guys know so much on here and I was hoping that someone could tell me a good website that I could go to to look up mommy playgroups for my son?? Since I'm staying home now I'm running out of things to do and since i can't get much done with him, I would rather get out of the house and have him play with other kids. I need to socialize him a little bit and was hoping you guys would know a place I can look for in my area.

It's not specifically to find play groups, but you can do a search and find a group of mom's that are near your home.

You can also try a church in your area, they have playgroups.

Other than that you can ask around the neighborhood...

Use the Internet to get off the Internet! - Meetup.com is a good one. I found a wonderful mom's group and have been there for about a year now. You have to pay dues and it's $10 a year but that is only after you meet the group and decide if its for you or not.

I used meetup.com when Aidan was just a baby. I joined 2 local playgroups and I am still very active with both, and that has been 4 years ago!! I do recommend it. Some of the groups do not charge dues, both of my groups charge minimal dues just to cover the organizer's cost to host the group through meetup. (one is $5 every 6 months, the other is $3 per year).

I would also suggest local MOPs groups (Moms of Preschoolers). This is a Christian group that meets in churches, usually 2 mornings per month. It is a good way to meet other moms. They have free childcare, while the moms have snacks, listen to a topic for the day, and do crafts.

Good luck in finding a mom's group! It has really helped keep me sane!

It's not only for playgroups, but if you craft you can find crafty groups, photographers can find other photographers.

Everybody has listed any suggestion I had but I just wanted to say you won't regret it...I have made some great friends in my Moms Club. Another bonus is you will have people who you trust for when you go into labor with #2 unexpectedly and don't have family around...can ya tell this happened to me

I was going to recomment a MOMS Club as well. They were my lifesavers when I moved to this brand new area, and are now the best friends that I have! Definetely look into one of those groups if you have one around you!!!

Check out Mops.org , I know there are charter groups everywhere, I am a member here in Texas. Dues vary. I love it though!

I say MOMS CLub too! I was Membership Vice President my my chapter before I moved and I miss it every day! I met some of my best friends through MOMS Club!

Oh I recommend one too!! I did a google search for mom's groups in my area and came up with a list of about 4 or 5 then chose 2 that I tried out before I settled on the one I am a member of.
I also looked on meetup.com and tried the group in my area but I didn't feel as comfortable in that group as I do with the one I am a member of.
My daughter was about 4 months old when I did it and it is amazing to see how much it has helped her with socializing and becoming such a big girl over the last year almost a year and a half now. She would literally freak out in the beginning from overstimulation but within 2 months she was fine as long as I was near her and now she could care less where I am she wants to "play with kids" she says.

What exactly is MOPS? I went online and located a local group but other than that there is no information. Is it geared more toward faith and religion?? Because it stated it was mops of faith and they are in a church.

I've been in a mom's group since 2005 and love it! I used meetup.com as well. Most organizers in the Mom's groups will allow you to try the group out before paying membership dues. There are som groups that are sponsored by Huggies, so the dues should be minimal.
