| when reading "BOO" is not a good thing Matthew can read the word BOO
I am sure it is just a sight word for him -- but he has been able to recognize it since this time last year.
It is his favorite word to write and his favorite word to find when we are out and about.
Last week, while driving home from school, Matthew yells from the back seat, "Did you see that BOO store?? I saw a sign back there. It said BOO."
I had no idea what he was talking about -- I hadn't seen a thing, but then I was paying attention to the road and not the store signs. I try to think what stores we might have passed (BOOks? BOOts?); but can't think of any.
Yesterday, when I picked him up from school, he immediately said, "We have to find the BOO store." Sounds like a plan to me. Down the street we go, trying to find the BOO store.
We pass BF Goodwrench -- and I think, "Well, maybe in passing all he saw was the B and the OO -- all of which are in caps and quite bright" I point out the sign. Matthew tells me that is NOT the BOO store.
We keep driving.... we see nothing with BOO
Until we come to the light.... did I mention that Matthew's school isn't in the best part of town? Well, there on the corner is the big ol' sign "PEEK-A-BOO" -- it's one of the local nudie clubs. I hear, "there it is! there it is!" from the back seat. "Let's go there today! Right now! I want to go to the BOO store!"
I am trying not to laugh. I simply told Matthew that it was not a store, but a place to dance. And it was for adults only. He pressed the issue so I further explained by saying it was a place for adults to dance. No kids allowed. And that it was closed right now and would not be open until after his bedtime.
Dave gets the priviledge of explaining the word "manufacture" to Matthew on the way TO school. On the way home, why do I get the honor of tactfully explaining (avoiding) what the nudie club is?
