So dd has diarhea (I can't spell it , I'll just call it The Big D). Do they make otc meds for children.? Any tips? It seems to be a mild case - of course it happened at pre-school. She was soooo upset that she didn't make it to the bathroom. what foods would be good to give her. TIA

Don't they say to eat a 'BRAT' diet for that. . . B - banana R - rice A - applesauce T- toast And yogurt is always good to get the needed bacteria back into her system.

No fruits--that's just more fiber and won't "clog" her up so to speak. Eat plenty of bulky foods such as bread. Yogurt to add bacteria back into the GI system. hth

Maybe check her diet to see if there is anything making it "loose'. My son used to have issues as a toddler;he drank tons of apple jusice. I would be careful not to try and bulk her up though if it were a viral type thing. Usually in those cases, the "ickies" need to leave the body that way...I would just treat with plenty of liquids to fend off possible dehydration.

I think you are supposed to let this system rest the first 24 hrs and only give clear liquids..after that start putting bland foods in and just see how it goes. low fat stuff for a few days...the fat irritates the bowels.

The BRAT diet has always worked for my kids. And also there is IMODIUM® A-D Liquid... although it says for kids 6-11. You could probably give her 1/2 dose and she'd be ok... Hope she feels better soon! BTW - we've always referred to diarrhea as 'THE BIG D'...too funny!

agree on the "brat" diet. also if you give her yogurt, make sure it has the live, active cultures. also saltines and chicken noodle soup. really anything bland. also pedialyte or pedialyte pops.
