Legos.... How do you organize them? I hope this is the right place for this post... My two sons, 12 & 6, are obsessed with Legos! We have millions of them! Does anyone have any suggestions on a good way to store them that doesn't take up a ton of space and can keep them somewhat organized? Right now they're everywhere (including the floor!!) and causing me a lot of grief!! I'm looking for reasonably priced (ok, cheap as heck) and easily accessible storage. Something that can either tuck away or look ok freestanding in their room. Thanks in advance for any ideas!!

I totally understand this. My 7 year old loves legos. But I find pieces everywhere. And some of the sets are so expensive and when you loose one piece...there goes the whole set! I either put a set with the directions into a shoe box size rubbermaid tote or ziplock bag. I am about to just put all of them into one big box and let my son fend for himself. I always tell myself to never buy another lego set...and then the inlaws buy them for him. UGH!

I bought a couple of rolling bins on clearance after christmas that way he can roll them around and they fit perfectly under his bed -- also you can open just one side or open the whole thing its really kind of neat and saves on my back from picking up heavy containers

When my sons were young I purchased something from Lego (YEARS ago) that was the most awesome for keeping the legos contained!! I will try my best to describe it for you crafty people out there I am sure you can make something very similar with little effort!!! This was made of material, somewhat of a soft jeans type material. When opened up it was a large circle on the floor. Around the edges was a casing with a rope in it, you tie the end of the rope together. My sons played ON the material, when they were finished playing with the legos, pull the string and the legos were gathered up in the bag ready to be carried off to the closet for storage. GREAT idea for travelling with the children so that they can take their legos with them and keep them contained!!! HTH!

I don't know that I will EVER buy a new lego set because I got a lot of loose bricks (like a big diaper box full) for $2 so we have tons. I like putting them in a huge bin and just putting them on a tablecloth/sheet on the floor. I like to see everything when I am playing with them (yes, I still do...it's fun!).

I'm really digging the box4blox!! at this point keeping the sets together is out of the question! I'm pretty sure they don't follow the instructions on most of them (I think just the Star Wars ones). I don't dig the price on that box, but, I'm going to see if my honey can come up with something, he's kind of a genius like that!! Thanks so much for all the great suggestions!! |

Organized legos is the impossible dream. At one point, I had shoeboxes labeled for the set it was and the instructions on it. Then they started mixing them all together and they are EVERYWHERE. I have managed to keep the guys separate at least and they are in their own shoebox. Besides that, I have a huge rolling bin, legos on my train table, legos in a bin in my family room (those are the Duplo ones) and several other containers in my basement. After Hurricane Katrina, Lego did a initiative where for every brick you sent it, they would donate one to a kid who suffered a loss due to the hurricane. I mailed in 4 shoeboxes of legos and my kids never noticed! I'm sure I will be sad at one point when they stop playing with them, but that will take a long time!

We took everything out of the top drawer of their dresser and put the legos in there. They play with them on top of the dresser any way and when they are done they can just sweep them off into the drawer. We still get some that end up on the floor, but not nearly as many. (The dresser is chest high on my boys. It also has casters on it so they can move it around to play on both s
