Box Tops for Ed. help

Does anyone know why the Box Tops for Education program is only for K-8 schools? I'm in charge of fundraising for our preschool and I think this would be a great way to make a little $$. We've tried Campbells LFE, but they are only worth about 1-cent each vs. 10-cents each for BTFE. You have to have a big school/lg. participant group to make Campbell's worth your while. So, I'm asking anyone who is willing to email Box Tops (www.boxtops4education.com, click on contact us) and ask them to include preschools in their fundraiser. Maybe if they get enough feedback/interest they'll include preschools in the future. Thanks!

I totally agree. I work at a small preschool (60 kids) and we have tried this also. Every little bit helps and I wish we could do it.

Now, are you sure? B/c I thought my friend told me that her son's preschool class (which is in a church) collects BTFE. I will double check with her.

I actually got an official (lame) reply back from BTFE...

Thank you for contacting us regarding the participation of daycare
facilities and preschools in our Box Tops for Education program. We
apologize, but at this time, we have made the decision to limit program
participation to United States accredited k-8 grades (one of these
grades must be within the school being enrolled) public, private,
parochial, US military schools (worldwide) and home school associations
with 15 or more students. The decision to limit program participation
was an economic decision. We discussed a number of alternatives,
however, we were unable to reach a satisfactory solution. This is the
ninth year of Box Tops for Education and we expect it to be an on-going
program for school fundraising in the future. It is certain that
changes will be made to the program based upon what we learn from year
to year.

If you feel your school does qualify, please call us at 1-888-799-2444
(Option 0 for operator) so we may further assist you in starting up in
our program.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact us. Correspondence such
as yours helps us improve the products and programs we make available to
the public.

I do collect them, b/c I'm not throwing away free money, but I just end up giving them to our preschool director who has 3 kids in elementary school. But I'd rather have the $$ come to our school of course.

No, no, save them so that when B goes to K he can win the "most brought in by a kid" contest! LOL! You can also sell them...I'll help you out with that if you'd like.

Luckily my preschool is within a K-6 school so we collect them and can "win" parties etc! LOL, but my kids always try and guilt me into letting them take them to their class.

On saving them for your son's kindergarten, just make sure they don't expire before then (some have expiration dates)...Also, as mentioned they are a big commodity on ebay!

My personal pet peeve. I am in charge of the BTFE program for our school for the 3rd year and I hate the idea of people using BTFE for personal profit. This is supposed to be a program to help the schools and not line people's pockets.

WOW, wtg!! We usually get around $1,000 a year from it. Our school ranges year to year with anywhere from 900-1400 kids, k-5.
Dawn, how did you guys do with it last year?

Has anyone else noticed that the boxtops aren't on as many things lately?...for example; this morning I made biscuits and usually there is one on the pilsbury can...but there wasn't one..and the other day I made some toaster strudels for the kids...and there wasn't one on that box either...

Go to www.boxtops4education.com and it will have a list as to what the BTFE are on this year. They change things slightly each year. For example, they are on ZIPLOC BAGS this year.
Make sure to register as a Booster for your child's school and register all of your email addresses. The school gets credit for each new Booster it gets each year. If in need of a school to support, please use Hanes Elementary in Irvign, TX. [shameless plug]

Barb - we made just under $1000 last year but that was only our second year so I am very happy!

I agree that selling them is just not the right thing to do. I'd rather the $$ stayed with a school in my area and if that means clipping them, just to give them to a friend, then that's what I'll do. In regards to the expiration date and saving them for DS, I have held on to one's with 2007+ dates and passed the rest along. Thanks for all the input and discussion!

Our librarian gives a small treat for each 1o that is brought in.
Then once a month she hosts a movie and popcorn treat (giving the classroom teacher a 70 minute treat as well.) to the class that brings in the most boxtops.
This has proven very worth while at our school.
