Toddler Bad Breath! Help! My 3yo has bad breath. Not like you can smell him across the room but when he gets really close its not pleasent. He brushes and I brush his tongue best I can without gagging him. He still uses that No Floride kids type toothpaste because he still swallows it. I tried giving him just a tiny bit of my toothpaste for scent but he doesn't like the taste. He does not eat junk food hardly at all and no soda and stuff like that. Any idea's? I am tired of DH accusing me of not brushing his teeth. :deadhorse

The last time Jake had bad breath, it turned out to be strep throat...I kept thinking that a toddler shouldn't have breath like that???? (same things, we brush, we eat well, etc.) Then Jake started complaining that his throat hurt & running a fever. But he had progressively worse breath for a few days before that. If it's been an ongoing problem, you might get in touch with a dentist - he's supposed to start going when he's three anyway.

B is right HH...if he has bad breath it is prob a health problem. When my Jerry was 3 he developed horrible breath and it turned out he had an infection...might want to contact his doctor.

Okay he didn't "just" develop it. His throat is fine (looked 5 times already today!), he isn't sick. He is a "poor" brusher which I am sure doesn't help but even after I brush his teeth well myself it stinks. He doesn't have like dog breath.

If you're concerned about it call the Dr. or dentist - no 3 yo is a good brusher - he shouldn't have bad breath. If it's noticeable, you should at least mention it - could be something as simple as a stuck bit of food, could be a sign of something more, don't take risks! You know that! There are actually lots of things that cause bad breath that have nothing to do with brushing/food. Don't blow it off!

1. I am not "concerned" about it 2. It's not "noticeable" like where other people are saying his breath stinks 3. Stinks was probably a bad choice of words. It's not like nasty stinky breath. Just an "off" smell. It's not recent.

most of the DHs deserve anything they get from us (in a loving manner in case any newbies are confused), but the babies? Never!!!! |
