Today, I called the local food shelf to find out what they need and where to donate. I was thinking of donating a bag of 7 items each week. I looked around and found 7 items in no time and it hardly made a dent in my stockpile. I was thinking this would be a good way to keep motivated - one item per day, but then again it doesn't seem like much.

How do you decide how much to donate?

Go with your heart and donate what you think is enough. It's different for all of us. Depending on what they are, 7 items each week could be a meal or two a day for a couple days for a mom/dad and a couple kids.

When I shop, I do it with the goal of donating a certain percentage of the non-perishable food items I buy each month to the local food pantry. I try to get as many multiples as I can and there's no way our family can use all of them. If I had 5 or 6 kids, maybe. Using coupons and getting things for little to no money lets me give so much more than I ever could without the coupons.

I kind of just donate the things I have a mass amount of... or things I know i wont be using. But, great plan and thanks so much for donating!

I'm thinking of donating everything I get for 0.00 or that's a MM. We're not rich but my family can certainly afford to pay for food, especially when couponing. I don't have much of a stockpile built back up since my break from Qing yet (well, just deod and toothpaste). But I think if I donated everything that was 0 or MM that would be kind of cool; I could just put those items in a special box and when it's full, drop it off -- or top it off!
