K just wanted to double check on this!

Recycle 10 cartridges and get $40rewards
Buy HP ink and get 20% rewards back

Can I use last months $20 ink recycling reward and still get my new ones for 20% and ink $40? So pay $20 less but get $40 and 20% back?

Short answer: Nope, won't work.

Longer answer: You have to be really careful with Staples rewards. They do anything they can to prevent rolling. First of all, they usually have a LIMIT on how many you can recycle and get the double rewards on (usually it's 5). You CAN use your rewards from last month to get your ink. But if you do that, the system will subtract the amount of rewards you used from the qualifying amount for getting the double rewards this time. You'd have to spend $50 (the qualifying amount) PLUS the $20 reward from last month to qualify. And the system also subtracts the amount of rewards used from the amount that qualifies for the 20% back (or the 10% back, for that matter). They won't give rewards back on rewards spent.

I've learned that the best thing to do is to pay OOP for the ink, and then use the rewards on something else. And be sure to buy that "something else" in a separate transaction.

Gotcha! K I'm glad I asked! I'd rather just pay for my ink with rewards then and keep my oop lower.
