I was on CNN today and found this article, I was completely appalled and it has made me so angry that words cannot even describe. I am a mother of an autistic 7 year old girl and if this had happened to her-- I just don't know what I would do, it brought tears to my eyes just thinking about this little boy.

regardless of the child's capacity.. that is unacceptable... I have volunteered in kindergarten before and there is no way those kids would have voted that way without some encouragement.... They are soo impressionable (sp?) at that age... it is totally unacceptable behavior on the part of the teacher.. you are never to single out a student like that

I personally feel that new teachers in my area need better training. I am not sure how long this teacher has worked. But I am seeing a decline in the way teachers teach her locally. I have even spoken to senior teacher with over 20 yrs expereince and they feel this also.

Our children have changed and so has our society. We seem to be seeing increases in AD/HD, autism and other diagonises that our affecting our children.


If this had happened to my child I would be doing the same thing calling CPS, police, school board and even the parents in my childs class. I would contact the media and probably an attorney. I am not a sue happy person and if money was to come from a lawsuit I would use it to open a school for children with disablities.

When DSD 7 was mistreated in her class this year I went to the teacher, then the principal and then to the school board. Her teacher told her she couldn't "speak" or read out loud because she has an accent (she is native eskiomo). Guess who got to read out loud more after that. The teacher also has a letter of reprimand in her file now.

Could you imagine, superk, someone doing that to one of you DS's. I am very sensitive now when it comes to how you treat special kids. I was one of those kids in elementary school that would play with the special kids during recess and make them feel part of the group. I was in a program where I got to tutor a special kid in math and reading. I just don't understand how you can be an educator and do something sooooo stupid. Now granted, sometimes my DD (with autism) can drive me nuts, but I would never use an unkind word about her, she thrives off of positive reenforcement, as she does negative, this teacher really did not think everything would be OK. I'm still very upset.

I am a teacher of children with special needs (many on the Spectrum) and my 9 year old has Asperger's. My 13 year old doesn't have the ruling but does have some of the same behaviors as Andrew (the doctor feels he may be more biploar than anything so doesn't want to label him either). I am totally appalled by this. Our principal would have fired her on the spot and with just cause.

The fact that they haven't fired this teacher makes me wonder if Port St. Lucie offers tenure to their teachers. That's the only thing I can imagine that could save her.

I can't imagine ever subjecting a child of any age to such treatment! I taught 8th grade for 10 years and I assure you, I would never, ever have done such a thing. That teacher clearly does not know how to handle kids and should not be allowed around them. Her behavior is despicable!

Sorry, I could not bring myself to click the link and read the story. Things like that make me see red!!! I have several special needs relatives. My youngest son has his own issues as well.

My best friend back home has a daughter in second grade. She is extremely intelligent and outgoing. She is also high functioning Autistic. My friend called me last week and told me the kids in school were calling her daughter names like "weirdo". They held an Autism Awareness seminar of sorts to explain autism to the children. Apparently it didn't work. It breaks my heart for her.

I have to say though, I pity those who make fun of people who have special needs, not the special needs people. Those with disabilities don't need our pity or sympathies. They have tremendous abilities and such a capacity for love and forgiveness.It's those who are so shallow and can't see the heart of someone that I think is truly pitiful.

OMG!!!!! I have an 11 yr old with Autism and I think I would have to find that teacher, put her in front of a group of my peers and we would tell her what we thought!!! I would sue the school board for her dismissal! That's so horrible. As is special needs children don't have enough confidence problems, they add this. Not to mention the message it gives the children who voted. If you don't like someone, get rid of them? They should be taught understanding, compassion, etc. NOT HATE!!!!!

This is totally unacceptable! I can NOT beleive that the police found no grounds for charges. It is absolutely ridiculous!!!! What does this teahcer think she is teaching these children??? If my child was one if the children in her class I would pull him/her out so fast! As if there aren't enough problems with many children these days in regards to discrimination (all forms) and trying to teach you kids what is right and wrong and not to judge...etc! Unbelievable!

That is so sad. I have a son with special needs and when he was in 6th grade he was in the bathroom and a smaller kid threatened to beat him up he didn't know the kid was not serious and I had to fight like H*LL to keep the priciple from expelling him she kept saying we should think of the other kids in this school not him. 2 weeks later I changed his school they were not following his IEP so they were at fault. She was P*ssed to no end. I have found that special needs kids are shoved away if at all possible, and it makes me see RED.

OMG, I would definitly have someone's A$$ if that was my child...the school knows, I am the first one to volunteer or help out with anything needed, but in return I expect them to make sure that my children are learning in a safe environment free of bullying and intimidation...this woman needs to have her butt handed to her by a bunch of HER peers!

Wow that just made me want to smack that teacher and I am not a violent person and don't usually have feelings like that, but that just makes me so mad!!!!

She does NOT have the heart to work w/ kids. I don't have an autistic child (that I know of) or anything, but I was cussing this woman a blue streak in my fantasy world when I read that. Autism is so rampant they are going to have to educate teachers better...like mandate a psych class in common disorders seen for all elementary ed graduates and CEUs for current teachers.

I swear it what is wrong with the teachers? I know not every teacher act that way but this is the 3 rd story in a week I have heard about. this story you posted about. Another story by a AFC poster(I can't remember who sorry). And I saw this story this morning on GM America:

Parents got smart and sent a recorder on their child to school. And got lots of crazy stuff the teacher said like if you want to be his friend blah, blah...the child =is 5 years old!

That is just wrong!!!! This teacher has NO reason to be around ANY child!!! As for the police Dept, whats wrong with them? Isn't this a form of child abuse???
