If you check only 1 bag, American Airlines is going to start charging you $15. And because of the 'liquids' law you have to check at least 1 bag. Extra fees will apply for each bag after that and for over weight bags.

They are trying to get you coming and going.

This sucks!!! As if traveling and vacations weren't expensive enough already!

Southwest apparently needs to give seminars on how to run an affordable freaking airline. Southwest charges 39 each way to/from Jackson MS and Houston TX. It's hundreds w/ the other airlines. They are super nice and they don't give you crap about checked baggage. I have to check strollers and things like that- no way I can lug 3 kids through an airport along with rolling carts (not old enough to pull their own). American needs to just call it a freaking day b/c if they can't afford to throw a bag up in the belly of a plane w/o charging then they need to get outta the airline bidness.

Most of the airlines are doing this now. Not just American.

Some started May 1 and others May 15. You can check 1 bag at 50 lbs or less...if it weighs more than 50, they will charge you. If you have 2 bags to check you will be charged either $15 or $25 extra per bag...

Sorry, I just re-read your post. Now, to charge for 1 bag? That's not right... not that I liked them charging for the 2nd bag, but you have to take at least 1 bag.

All we have to worry about with Southwest is if their planes passed inspection or not!
